Prices equal to X50 in China, but this tiny Wuling Mini EV Convertible is sold out before launch

Ahead of its official launch next week, prices of the Wuling Mini EV Convertible have leaked out in China and it isn’t cheap, at all.

Prices of the open-top Wuling Mini EV allegedly start from CNY 87,800 (~RM 56k) and tops out at CNY 102,800 (~RM 66k). For reference, the regular Mini EV is priced between CNY 32,800 (~RM 21k) to CNY 72,800 (~RM 47k).

These prices would mean that prices of the Wuling Mini EV Convertible overlap the Geely Binyue (sold here as the Proton X50) in China, which is priced between CNY 72,800 (~RM 47k) to CNY 119,800 (~RM 77k).

That said, these prices have not stopped some 150,000 people from placing a booking for one, though only 200 will be selected via balloting for the first batch.

The increase in price isn’t just skin-deep, as the Wuling Mini EV Convertible boasts more driving range than the cheaper variants, coming in at 280 km. The regular variants boast a range between 120 km to 170 km.

That’s courtesy of a larger 26.5 kWh battery pack. Regular Wuling Mini EV variants get a smaller 9.2 kWh battery pack instead.

Wuling also mentioned that the possibility of more batches of the Wuling Mini EV Convertible to be added hinges on the popularity of the model. Judging from the sheer number of bookings, we won’t be surprised if more batches will be offered in future.
