A bold front end that ditched its predecessor’s double chevron grille and familiar Citroen face in favor of a new design referred to as the ‘DS wings’. The design is distinctly bolder than other models in this class, with loads of quirky details and a smattering of high-quality materials on the dash.
The Citroen DS 5, the first standalone model from Citroen’s luxury DS arm, a sub-brand separated itself from the rest of the Citroen range and became a standalone brand instead. The difference between the two, basically taking the Citroen badges off the existing DS model line-up in the hope to attract a better class of customers. In fact, the stylish design is far more elaborate than the design of any typical sedan that compares with its rivals Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Volkswagen Passat.
The refinement and attention to detail of the jewel-like LED and Xenon technology with sequential indicators and LED fog lamps with static cornering for better lighting quality. The rear signature six light guides, wide track and twin tailpipes are designed to look as good from the rear as the front.
The bold design profile certainly helps its individuality with concept car lines and bold chrome trims running along the top of the headlamps into the A pillar add to this uniqueness. It still looks like a family car, however, and is immediately recognizable despite Citroen removing the huge double-chevron grille in 2015. Not only is the fit, finish and material quality a match for mainstream rivals, but the design is also impressively stylish.

Premium materials lead to the utmost in luxurious comfort with interior leather finishing, massage seats with electric memory, heads-up display projects essential driving information in colour, aluminium door cross bars and console trim, metal gear knob, interior door hands a dashboard upholstered in supple foam that is pleasant to the touch attention to soundproofing and noise absorption.
The most symbolic element of aerospace design being the ‘cockpit roof’, which has three glass areas. The main controls are on two centrally positioned consoles – one near the gear selector and one overhead – that feature buttons, dials and toggle switches that were all aerospace inspired. It gets a quirky but desirable cabin with a funky analogue clock, presence of neat metal inserts throughout while options like the watchstrap leather and panoramic roof give a quality feel.
The overall all-around visibility from the inside is limited, especially the rear and rear seat is a little tight due to the sloping roof and given only 468 litres of boot space due to its sloping roof-line design. Moreover, the split A pillar is a little too thick and it widens the blind spot area.
The Citroen DS5 equipped with a seven-inch touchscreen streamlines the control layout with 12 fewer buttons on the center console comes with Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink connectivity, Bluetooth connectivity, a head-up display, a six-speaker, and 100W Denon sound system.
The Citroen DS5 dampers now feature preloaded linear valves (PLV) for more linear damping and a longer compression stroke, while suspension impact noise has been reduced. Drivetrain Power is transferred to the front wheel.
The Citroen DS5 more of an urban fashion hatchback than an expression of French luxury. The dramatically styled DS 5 is an intriguing mix of high-roofed hatchback, coupe and sports estate, the result of the mounting pressure on the traditional D-segment family saloon. The technology and stylistic trailblazer to give an enjoyable smooth journey, dynamic and agile driving experience.
