    2021 Mercedes-Benz EQC Overview

    Mercedes-Benz EQC Overview

The Mercedes-Benz EQC is Stuttgart’s first member of the fully electric Mercedes EQ family, a range of full-fledge production electric vehicle that will expand to include 10 new models by 2022. Based on Mercedes-Benz’s MRA (Modular Rear Architecture) platform that also underpins the Mercedes-Benz GLC compact SUV, the fully electrified SUV shares a very similar proportion to its internal combustion engine counterpart both inside and out.

The concept is rather simple. Take out the combustion engine, exhaust, fuel tank, and transmission from the Mercedes-Benz GLC, then insert two electric motors, one on each axle and juiced by an underfloor battery.

The Mercedes-Benz EQC runs predominantly in front-wheel-drive mode, but the rear electric motor is called to serve when extra performance is required. The more organic and streamlined profile with distinctive features such as the blue stripes in the headlights exemplify its zero-emission status. The EQC 400 4Matic is the sole variant available and retails at an estimated price of RM 600,000.

    Must Read

    • Exterior Design- Based on the already rather gorgeous Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV silhouette, the car more subtle and curvy body contours accentuate its more streamlined and organic exterior design.

    • Refinement- A familiar Mercedes-Benz refinement can also be found here in the EV. Tyre roar and suspension noise, which can be greatly amplified due to the lack of engine noise, is brilliantly suppressed here.

    • Performance- The instantaneous torque available is addictive. The immense performance from the dual electric motor gets the 2.5 tonne SUV to 100 km/h faster than a Volkswagen Golf GTi.

    • Handling- Weighing in at close to a quarter of a tonne, the car rolls and pitches through the bends. The car feels most at home cruising on the highway.

    • Price- The price for a cleaner future certainly does not come cheap with a price tag of RM 600,000.

    • Cramp Interior Space- The slopping roof line compromises head room at the rear. Unlike most EVs that offer a flat floor, the car retains the bulging transmission tunnel in the Mercedes-Benz GLC SUV, eating into much needed interior space.
