The Mitsubishi ASX (short for Active Sports Crossover) is a 5-door compact crossover SUV, first introduced in Malaysia back in 2010 as a fully imported CBU model from Japan.
Local assembly of the Mitsubishi ASX commenced in 2014 at the Tan Chong Motor Assemblies in Segambut where it went through a couple of facelift exercises and multiple special editions before officially discontinued in 2021.
The locally assembled Mitsubishi ASX is available in the 2WD and the 4WD variant, the latter with the ability to lock drive at 50:50 on both axles. Both variants are powered by the same 2.0 Litre 4-cylinder MIVEC engine paired to a CVT transmission.
The Mitsubishi ASX is competitively priced when launched and it goes up against rivals like the Honda HR-V, Subaru XV and the Toyota C-HR. 
Feature- Range topping 4WD variant gets premium features like the panoramic sunroof, magnesium paddle shifter and a more comprehensive safety feature with only a slight premium on the 2WD variant.
Chassis- Featuring a fully independent suspension system featuring multi-link in the rear as opposed to a more common torsion beam system, it keeps the wheels planted on the ground and drives like a conventional low riding car.
4WD option- 4WD allows for increased traction under slippery conditions and smoother cornering performance. ‘Lock’ mode delivers more torque to the rear wheels for better performance in all weather and terrain conditions.
Safety Feature- Basic Advance Driver Assistance (ADAS) like Blind Spot Monitoring and Lane Keep Assist is nowhere to be found. Safety system on the 2WD variant is basic and crude to say the least.
Modern Connectivity- The touchscreen infotainment system features only basic Bluetooth connectivity and lacks modern features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Dated design- The Mitsubishi ASX has been around for the past 11 years, and despite having been through a couple of facelifts and equipment updates, it is starting to look its age.
