Porsche Macan â Overview
Officially codenamed Type 95B, the current Porsche Macan is still in its first generation. Its underpinnings are the same as the first-gen Audi Q5 (which is now in its second-generation), which means that the platform is a little dated. An all-new Macan is reported to be coming soon in 2022, which will adopt the nomenclature of the Taycan.As a final hurrah for the current widely popular Macan, it has been given a facelift in 2019. The updates are a welcome refresh â a light strip joining the tail-lights like on the Panamera and 911, an adjusted running gear for efficiency, and every variant received a slight revision too.
The new base model Macan is slightly down in power with the EA888 engine, from 255 PS to 252 PS, while 370 Nm of twist remains unchanged, but the engine is more efficient.
The updated Macan S now gets a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with 354 PS and 480 Nm of torque, as opposed to the old one with a 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6 with 344 PS and 460 Nm.
The facelifted GTS now has a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 that makes 380 PS and 520 Nm of torque. The previous version had 364 PS and 460 Nm from a 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6. The new GTS is also 15 mm lower than any other variant.
The engine of the S makes 440 PS and 550 Nm of torque in the facelifted range-topping Turbo. The previous one had a 3.6-litre twin-turbo V6 with 400 PS and 550 Nm (446 PS and 600 Nm with the optional Performance Pack).

The Macan is the most handsome non-sports car in the marqueâs line-up with its compact form and balanced proportions. Not much is different on this facelift, as it is a winning recipe. There is a new light strip connecting the rear light clusters. It received front lights that are unmistakably inspired by the 718 Cayman, and the current nose looks remarkably refined when contrasted to the previous overtly macho one. Inside, the Macan feels more like a sports car, albeit with a higher seating. The familiar bank of chrome-surround centre console is also filled with chrome-trimmed switches. Macans in Malaysia come standard with the Premium Package. This adds 14-way memory front seats, Power Steering Plus, self-dimming mirrors, a Bose sound system, and ambient lighting to the car.Materials in here are of course configurable. Seats can be trimmed fully or partially in leather, Alcantara, with different colour options as well. There is also an option for 18-way Adaptive Sports Seats.
A common complaint is that, at its most basic trim, the standard interior may not befit a car with such a badge. Rear legroom and overall space inside is passable but not exemplary.

Standard features inside include a new 10.9-inch infotainment touchscreen display that recognises digital audio broadcast, has Apple Carplay (but no Android Auto) and also features Porscheâs connected services. Other standard equipment are front and rear parking sensors, automatic wipers, LED headlights and DRLs, and a powered tailgate.The usual suite of safety equipment is found on every variant â 8 airbags, ESC, ABS, and many more. However, thereâs also a slew of optional equipment too that helps in safety, like Surround View, Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus, as well as others that help with performance, like the Sport Chrono Package, Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus, and even an Off-road mode too.

Porsche knows how to make exciting cars. From the Macan to the Macan Turbo, the century sprint figures are 6.5 s, 5.1 s, 4.7 s, and 4.3 s. These figures are with Sport Chrono fitted, which enables Launch Control. And like the monster that it is, the Macan Turbo will sprint to 160 km/h from standstill in just 10.3 seconds.Aside from that, the Macan may be the most athletic SUV on the market today. It flows through fast corners in a remarkably composed manner. Every model is fitted with conventional springs and dampers, with an option for Porsche Active Suspension Management. PASM will bring the car down by 15 mm, and then another 10 mm when Sport mode is activated. It will also rise by 40 mm in off-road mode.
Ride Comfort

Given the aforementioned PASM, there is the option of noodling about the daily commute in Comfort, which takes the athletic edge off of the Macan, but the ride is never going to be soft in the truest sense of the word. More luxury performance SUVs are slowly entering the market today, in no small part thanks to the Cayenne and the Macan, but it seems, just like the 911, Porscheâs SUVs are also the benchmarks in their respective classes.An all-new Macan is set to launch in 2022, and the German carmaker has said that the range-topping Macan Turbo will feature an all-electric powertrain, just like the Taycan Turbo. The rest of the range will still feature internal combustion engines, as the market is not ready for a full electric switch just yet.
