Overview
Lexus UX vs Audi Q3 vs BMW X1 vs Volvo XC40, which is the perfect car for you?
Exterior
Design
The Volvo XC40 still uses the traditional Volvo front grille and badge design and I think some people may have the same thinking as mine, XC40’s Y-shape headlights design reminds me of the Lamborghini’s headlamps. Also, the 19-inch wheels give this car a very strong stance and the taillights remind me of Honda CR-V.

Interior
Dashboard
Not like the layout of other cars, Volvo XC40’s 12.3-inch TFT Adaptive Digital Display is set lengthwise and between the two central ac vents. And you may notice that the design of ac vents is unique as well, even at first many people won’t think these are ac vents.
Instrument Cluster
In contrast, the instrument cluster in the XC40 seems simple but gives you the basic information about the vehicle and you can see which gear you are at.
Space and Practicality
Space and comfort at rear row are acceptable. However, it doesn’t offer as much thigh support as we expected and the seatback is upright. Besides, three people sitting at the rear would be crowded because of the cubbyholes on two sides.
Boot
The boot room of the XC40 is large enough for many people’s daily use, you can put many things in when you are shopping and put a couple of luggage for your travelling. If you want more, you can lay down the second-row seats.

Powertrain
There’s only one variant for Volvo XC40 and it uses a 2.0 4-cylinder T5 AWD R-Design engine, which can produce a maximum power of 252hp @ 5500rpm and a maximum torque of 350Nm @ 1800-4800rpm.
Transmission
The XC40’s engine is matched with an 8-speed Automatic Gearbox with Geartronic.
Drive System
The Volvo XC40 is an SUV with an all-wheel-drive system.
Driving Performance
Acceleration
With a powerful engine which can reach 252hp and 350Nm, you don’t need to worry that the Volvo XC40 will lack power. It can give great acceleration.
Engine Performance
The engine is so nice that you don’t even take much effort to put your right foot down to overpass other cars on the road.
Transmission Performance
Because the XC40 gets an 8-speed automatic gearbox, you can enjoy a fluent gearshift during your ride and there are no many jerks.
Steering and Handling
In the default setting, the steering wheel feels light but heavy at sport mode, you will have different responses at various driving modes. Also, it has a good turning circle so it’s nimble on some rough roads.
Ride Comfort
It feels pretty quiet in the cabin and at cruise speed, which is one of the necessary things as a premium SUV.
Passenger Comfort
The suspension is well-adjusted and the seats are very comfortable, these can give you an enjoyable driving experience.
Fuel Consumption
Volvo XC40 has a mileage of about 7.7 litres per 100km, which is a very nice and economical data for a 2.0L engine.
Conclusion
With the merits of local assembling, competitive price and so on, Volvo XC40 will make the Malaysian premium compact SUV market busier than before. It has an appealing look and impressive ride quality. In addition, it gets great interiors and features as a luxury SUV with friendly fuel efficiency.
