If the gear box is tightened too much, the steering wheel will not return when turned and will have to be forced back to straight ahead. If the steering wheel is turned all the way both ways several times, it will loosen up; when it no longer loosens up, it is too tight. Loosen it slightly until it will return easily.

  • Is manual steering better than power steering?

Generally speaking, power steering systems respond quicker to steering input than manual boxes. The manual box's lack of assist means that the gear ratio must be lower to allow the driver to turn the wheel. ... However, manual steering is inherently more precise because it requires more steering input to move the wheels.
  • Why does my front end pop when I turn?

Each CV axle has an inner and outer CV joint. The joints allow the CV axle shaft to move up and down as the vehicle travels over bumps. Also, the outer joints pivot to allow the front wheels to turn. Worn outer CV joints can make a clicking, popping, or snapping sound when the vehicle is cornering and accelerating.27 sept 2021
