The ,BMW M4, is a high-performance version of the BMW 4 Series automobile developed by BMW's motorsport division. BMW’s M designation stands for "motorsport" which was initially created for BMW’s racing program. Over time the BMW added the M designation throughout their vehicle portfolio with higher trim models. M-badged cars typically include modified engines, transmissions, ,advanced, ,suspensions,, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. BMW M also remains the only performance based company to cater motorcycles at the same time (BMW S1000RR).
M Sport is a package, M is a series. 440i M Sport means that the car is a 440i and has the additional package, which mostly includes cosmetic updates (exterior and interior) to make your car ‘look’ sporty. Occassionally, the package may have performance upgrades like better suspension, spoilers, splitters, diffusers and upgraded exhausts that may actually marginally affect the handling dynamics of the car. M4 on the other hand for example, is an M series car. It uses the same base platform as the 4 series but after that is built ground up to be a sports car. It looks much sportier, is wider, lower, handles better and is faster. Most parts for an M4 are developed and fine tuned by BMW’s Motorsport division. An M car is also considerably more expensive. So to summarize, M Sport is a package you add to a regular 2/3/4… series car mostly make your car look sportier. An M car is the full blown sports car.
If we go through the specifications of the BMW M4, it is powered by a 3.0-liter M TwinPower Turbo inline 6-cylinder engine with displacement at 2979 CC, producing 425 horsepower and 406 NM torque. 0–100 comes up in a staggering 4.1 seconds for the manual variant, which is enough to make your neck bang against the headrest of this demonic coupe. However, the automatic version turns out to be even quicker with a time of 3.9 seconds. The top speed claimed is nearly 280 kmph which has been limited to 250 kmph by BMW. BASICALLY, the M4 is a coupe, so obviously, 2-door car. . . Then, in 2018 Auto Expo, came along the new M5, i.e., the 6th Generation M5. It is powered by a 4.4 liter BMW M Performance TwinPower Turbo V-8 engine with displacement of 4395 CC, producing 600 horsepower and 553 NM torque. It comes in automatic variant only and is blisteringly fast with an acceleration of 0–100 in 3.2 seconds (that's 0.7 seconds faster than the M4). It's top speed is 305 kmph which has been also limited to 250 kmph by BMW. The M5 is a 4 door sports saloon with all new tech, engine and features that make it a typical M version while providing modernity. It is claimed to be the fastest BMW ever. . . So yes, the M4 being launched in 2013 was the fastest BMW in it's time, but with the arrival of the 6th Gen M5, it became the 'second fastest' BMW to be ever made. The new M4 has been launched in 2019 but that is just 0.1 second quicker than it's predecessor and still slower than the 2018 M5. So as of 2018, the M4 is not the fastest BMW ever, however, the new M4 is expected to be launched in 2020. Hope this answer helps.
A2A. Let me put it this way. I have driven, and have been driven in, many cars. Here is a list of the best cars I have driven. Each equally the best, just slight differences and reasons as to why, so I can’t pick one: BMW 520d E60 BMW 130i E87 (manual) BMW 330i E90 (manual) Abarth 595 Tourismo (manual) The one thing these cars have in common is fun. Notice I put 520d there. I have driven a 550i E60, but it didn’t feel as responsive. The 520d holds a unique place in my heart - it is quite fun, but not on the level of the other 3. It’s just the way it does everything else. I would consider it to be as near to the perfect car as I have ever driven. I also haven’t listed the M versions of those cars, but that’s because I sadly haven’t driven them. Hopefully I’ll be able to buy an E92 M3 some time in my life. Or drive one at least. Still, the M cars are only better. That said, I have been driven in an F82 BMW M4, and I honestly think there are better machines out there. The E92, for example. So, considering the list, BMW is 3 out of 4. Furthermore, you won’t see anything post-E90 on my list. In fact, BMW have become the ,“normal, driving machine” in my opinion. But BMW of old came close. Still, if you’re talking “ultimate”, you mean the best, and for one, the Maserati GranTurismo is a better machine. From there, the list grows of non-BMW performance cars. But bang for buck? There isn’t (or should I say, wasn’t) much else to come close. Paper specifications don’t matter to me - it’s the driving experience, the whole package, that makes a car a pleasure to drive. Speaking of which, I’m about to go fetch my daughter. What a pleasure - I get to drive there in my E90 320d. :)
BMW M4 The S7 is developed by Audi for more of a executive coupe. The M4 was developed by BMW as a racing car with some luxuries, since most customers nowadays demand that the M4 have more creature comforts and all, due to it being the top of the line 4-series. Kevin is right, both are technically powerful large executive coupes, but the M4 can be a race-car. If we look back in history, the M lineage started through BMW's motor racing past and the E30 M3. The BMW M4 is BMW's answer to the track needs of a customer who's looking at buying a 4-series, therefore lots of people who buy M4's use them as a fun luxurious sports car and a track day vehicle. With one push of a button on the BMW's M sport steering wheel, one can transform their car into a track monster. The suspension is stiffened, lowered, and calibrated for the tight turns and bends on a track. The steering and throttle response is sharpened, etc. The M4 is more of a racing car than the S7.
I dont know about your financial situation but there is an astronomical difference between a regular 4 series and an M4. For example. The brake pads and rotors on a 4 series cost approximately €160 for both rear wheels and approximately €190 for the front wheels. The rotors of an M4 are drilled and slotted made out of ceramic. A kit of pads and rotors for the front wheels easily costs €1200. A set for the rear wheels costs slightly less. The engines in M series cars tend to build-up carbon deposits on the intake valves. This problem can be solved by walnut blasting. This service costs approximately €250-400 depending on the engine. You can easily do it yourself very cheap but I doubt you want to do this yourself. Bodywork, suspension, you name it also has a very high price tag compared to parts for a regular BMW. BMW's arent problematic cars but an M-series is a sportscar, not a luxury car. Sportscars always burn a hole in wallets.
They will be perfectly reliable under a few conditions. You need a shitload of cash to maintain the car. Any //M car is not a real BMW. They share the looks but are completely different from the ground up. They are sportscars and not regular luxury cars. Parts cost 4-8× more than on a regular BMW. Only take it to a dealership or a BMW approved mechanic because these cars require extensive maintenance and only dealers or those with inside knowledge know what parts are going to fail under certain conditions or at a certain mileage. Always allow the engine to heat up to optimal temperature before driving it hard. Don't postpone maintenance.
AMD and NVIDIA seem to be taking a “if it sounds fast then they’ll buy it!” marketing technique. They follow the naming scheme that BMW made-the Illustrious ,M, Series, their high performance series. For example, if there was a car dubbed the BMW 4, or the BMW M4, with the same performance, which vehicle would you buy. Chances are you picked the M4, and the same goes for computer parts. NVIDIA has a lineage of sorts, the series went from the 7 series, to the 8, the 9 and the 10. Each seeing a bump in performance. They also have their “Titan” line, which has an arguably worse nomenclature, each dubbed the “Titan” or “Titan X”. If one looks at Razer they see the same name; The Razerblade or the Blade Stealth or Blade Pro, but the original Blade has a 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 version, each called the Blade. In conclusion, the naming of each product is a careful and calculated move, as having a well named product works wonders in marketing, but is also used to distinguish each device from its counterpart.
The BMW M4 is a car in a league of its own. This stylish car has amazing features like a powerful engine, high-performance brakes, amazing suspension, and an aggressive design. The best features of the ,BMW M4, are its adjustable M Sport seats, which can be heated, a color HUD, 20-inch alloy rims, full LED headlight clusters, and many more.
