Employees can deduct expenses in 2020 for WFH! The new temporary flat rate method simplifies their claim for home office expenses. They are eligible to use this new method if they worked more than ½ of the time from home for a period of at least four consecutive weeks #MedHat
Hi so I choose the WFH due to Covid 19 option and it then lets me log in to my gateway acc to complete form. I chose tax year 2020/2021, entered work details (PAYE) etc, said no to next few Q's (flat rate expenses, using vehicle etc) but still I end up with this page and total.
For those who migrated to working from home due to the pandemic, there is a new simplified flat rate method for getting a tax return of up to $400 for expenses ect. And no supporting documentation is required #taxrefund
No need to tell me - I've been WFH from my dining table, I live in a 1 bedroom flat. But that space wouldn't be being used if I was in the office, so I can still claim for it. Employers have the option to pay flat rate expenses instead, too.
Our Senior Tax Counsel, Professor Robert Deutsch agrees the 80c flat rate provides simplicity but also believes that people wanting bigger deductions should use the old method to calculate their work-related expenses.#COVID19 #coronavirus #taxinstituteoz #ABCNews #ATO #WFH
Tell the Canucks in your life about the special 2020-only flat-rate deduction for WFH expenses. $2/day you had to WFH.
Ok, I tried this "detailed" approach for WFH expenses tax credit. It makes sense if you rent for sure, if not the flat rate will have better return!
Make sure you've included all your expenses, esp bills proportionally etc if you wfh occasionally etc
Yup I use the flat rate to claim wfh expenses because lazy, but perhaps a more accurate calculation would be beneficial in the future....
