There are products available that will change the color to oil rubbed bronze and if you also use a clear matte sealer it will probably last longer. However, paint is still paint so you will probably need to touch up in a few years. I have used Rust Oleum on to change the metal color on ceiling fans with great success.
You can read new books on your kindle. My library is closed but they still do it online. I’m dusting off my watercolors and may actually paint again. All those little touch-ups around the house and the ceiling fixtures that get taken down to be washed, will be washed and touched up. I may go so far to organize my closet from short sleeves to long sleeves. All my laundry is done already. Reorganizing the basement storage area. Something I put off and put off.
Repair a patchy lawn, foam a loose shower head, caulk around your tub , replace cabinets knobs, replace lights and ceiling fans, cover up ceiling stains , touch up chipped paint, and replace weather stripping are somethings you can do it yourself if you have time and patience.
If the wall wasn’t aqua to start with, he should definitely fix that. Beyond that, there’s not much to say. Speaking as a third generation veteran painter, I can say with complete confidence that your contractor is not at fault for the paint not matching. Nor is the person who mixed the paint. You know what kind of latex paint can be successfully touched up? Only the very cheapest of flat whites and primers, mostly ceiling paints. No other latex interior paint touches up. Period. Oh sure, some of them are pretty good, especially certain colors. Ben Moore’s Aura is the best I’ve seen, but even it looks like what it is, an obvious touchup. Because even if the color match blends perfectly, ,the sheen never will., Even flat paint has a sheen that oxidizes over time. It changes slightly every day, a wall you painted a month ago will have a different sheen than fresh paint. Grey, unfortunately, is a color that will not touchup unless it’s so light it’s basically white. You typically shouldn’t be charged extra for having to paint the whole wall as opposed to a patch, if that was the agreement. I’m not certain why one wall ended up aqua if you didn’t approve that, but if you wanted it grey, it should be grey. Just make certain the painter stays on that one wall, as even a great color match will still be a different sheen from the other walls.
Matte and flat finishes cover imperfections in surface and application, making it a great choice for ceilings as well as for walls in the bedroom, dining room and living room. You can easily touch up this finish. Semigloss and gloss finishes prove durable with offering high resistance to moisture. These finishes show every single imperfection in surface and application, requiring additional prep work and sanding to create a smooth surface. Touch ups of this finish also will stand out because of the difference in sheen. The following paint finish is generally used by people for various corners.
I cleaned and prepped a 3 bedroom 2 bath rental home that was the home of five people -all of whom “ vaped”. They lived in the home for 3 years. During the time they lived there I completed 4 service calls. The odor of the vaping fluids was very strong when I went for evening service calls and everyone was home. Other times I made service calls around lunch and no one was home. They also used plug in air “ fresheners” which emit an extremely strong odor. I could not smell anything but a sickly strong “ French vanilla” odor emitting from these air fresheners when no one was home. The house was around 1,000 square feet but they had enough “ air fresheners” to serve 5,000 square feet. After they moved out, I was curious to see what effect all that vaping had on the house. Here is what I found. The whole house, walls, ceilings, ceiling fans had more dust and particulate matter clinging to the surfaces. It appeared they dusted, but whatever they dusted with swept dust of a layer of matter clinging to these surfaces. I could not wipe away the dust. None of the surfaces seemed to be sticky, it was like something sticky was there and then dried. The low ceilings in the bedrooms and bathrooms were dirty but the high ceiling in the main room was not. I found that a car wash sponge with only warm water cleaned these surfaces in one pass, with frequent changes of rinse water. The amount of debris in the rinse water was pretty high. I did not detect any smell after I removed all the “ air fresheners” and opened all the windows and doors for a few hours. After washing the walls, ceilings and ceiling fans the house looked freshly painted. I touched up a few places scuffed during moving and I was done. This was a pleasant surprise for me. I have cleaned up units after they were occupied by 5 smokers and I had to wash, prime, paint, change carpet and pad, etc. None of that was nrcessacary after the vape crowd moved. I checked the forced air furnace filter, it was changed regularly and the one in the furnace was clean. I did have to wash the return grill and a few supply grills, but that was more normal, we do that in all move outs, so no noticeable difference there. Based on this one rather intense experience, I don’t see any significant or costly pitfalls with allowing vaping indoors on single family detached rentals. I am not addressing “ Dabbing” . I do not believe these residents were creating a high potency THC substance by reducing marijuana in solvents like butane and then vaping the concentrated residue. I found no evidence to indicate they engaged in this risky practice. I do believe they smoked pot. The ordinary odor of pot was detected occasionally outside during evening service calls but owing to the overwhelming vaping odors and “ odor control devices” I couldn’t disquinsh a strong pot odor indoors. I could speculate that they vaped the proceeds of reducing THC to a more concentrated state that they obtained from others but it would only be speculation.
It didn’t happen to me, (well yeah it did) but my wife. Our daughter was small and I was given the chore to put her to bed while my wife made a candy recipe, “Aunt Bill’s Famous Brown Candy”. It was a recipe that her great aunt or great grandmother had clipped out of a newspaper in the early 1920’s. It involved sugar and vanilla, slow cooking the sugar to make a caramel candy confection. This was to be given out to relatives when we went home for Christmas which was a few short days away. My wife was attempting to use an electric stove to render this confection. The electric element would kick on and become too hot then shut off and not be hot enough. So while trying to stir the mix and keep it from burning and keep an even heat she had to partially remove it from the hot coils when they kicked on and slide them on for full contact when they kicked off. It was a frustrating endeavor and several batches were overheated in the process. The last attempt occurred just before I came down from upstairs where my daughter was now asleep. As I decended the stairs I heard several exclamatory remarks and a loud “whoosh” sound. As I peered into the kitchen my wife had a hand towel over her face and there was steam coming up out of the sink where the skillet she was using lay. The mix had gotten too hot and she had poured it down the garbage disposal before it stuck to the pan, just then she realized that the sugar would set in the garbage disposal, so she turned on the water and the garbage disposal. The water quickly turned to steam in the garbage disposal bringing some of the hot caramel sugar mix with it up out of the mouth of the garbage disposal. It spray-splattered over the entire kitchen, ceiling, floor, cabinets, center island, stove, refrigerator, wife, etc, etc,. She asked that I help her clean up the mess. This involved a wet sponge to loosen the now hard candy droplets and a sharp knife to pop them loose. I got a ladder and started on the ceiling, frequently changing the warm water in the bowl I was using and washing out the sponge. She quickly excused herself to take a quick shower and get the sticky confection out of her hair and off of her skin. After 1- 1/2 hours of me cleaning by myself in the kitchen and me wondering what could be taking her so long. I felt a tug on my pant leg. I looked down to see her in an evening gown. With her asking me “what do you think of this gown for the company Christmas party this weekend?” At that point I exclaimed “I have been in here cleaning up your mess and you have been in the back room trying on evening gowns?” A rather heated exchange occurred for a couple minutes and I said I was going to bed she could clean up her own mess. About 4:00 am she hopped into bed and woke me to let me know that she had cleaned up everything AND painted the ceiling. I rolled over and went to back to sleep for the 30 minutes I had left before the alarm went off. I got up the next morning and while I ate my breakfast I looked at the ceiling, a brown stain was appearing where the sugar caramel clumps were slowly leeching through the new paint. I could feel clumps of sugar still on the cabinet doors. The floor had been mopped, but my bare feet were sticking to the tile. I then took my morning shower, dressed and went off to work. Sometime during the day she called me at work and said she was still cleaning up some of the sugar-caramel mess, it had gone farther than she thought it had. I asked about the ceiling and there was a long pause. Then a “I might need you to help with it some more.” When I got home. The floor was clean and the mop was hanging on the back fence. I changed clothes and got a can of sealer paint from the garage and started “touching up” the brown stains on the ceiling. After I finished those I resumed popping the sugar- caramel clumps off the cabinets, counter tops, stove, top of the refrigerator, etc,. The next evening when I got home I got the paint for the ceiling and “touched up” the primer spots on the ceiling. It was three years before she brought up the subject of making “Aunt Bill’s Famous Brown Candy” again. I told her it had to be made out side on the patio, using my gas camp stove and cast iron skillet. She then asked if I would help her. Several hours later I had the first batch made. At the end of the evening I had four batches made and everything cleaned up with no accidents. I thought it was time to celebrate. I went into the house and pulled down a couple champagne glasses from the top of the cabinet, as I started pouring wine into them I noticed some brown spots (more sugar-caramel flecks). I said nothing and waited for my wife to notice, after several moments she looked at her glass and exclaimed how dirty it was, taking a finger nail to the speck, it popped off, she rolled it in her finger and then stuck it to her tongue. She glanced at me then looked at the glass, then looked at the floor and ask no one in particular if she would ever live down attempting to making “Aunt Bill’s Famous Brown Candy.” I got a hand towel and mopped up the wine I had spewed across the kitchen and we both laughed. I think that was the last batch of “Aunt Bill’s Famous Brown Candy” that we ever made.

Fresco, (plural ,frescos, or ,frescoes,) is a technique of mural painting executed upon freshly laid lime plaster. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fresco A ,mural, is any piece of artwork painted or applied directly on a wall, ceiling or other large permanent surface. A particularly distinguishing characteristic of mural painting is that the architectural elements of the given space are harmoniously incorporated into the picture. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mural Fresco is a very old technique. What happens is the painting actually becomes part of the wall where as with a mural, the painting is done on top of the wall. As a result really old fresco painting can be restored much easier than a mural done using egg and oil as a binding for pigments because the paint will not flake off with age and time. The Sistine chapel ceiling is a Fresco done by Michelangelo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sistine_Chapel_ceiling The plaster had to be applied in small sections because if the plaster set before Michelangelo finished working, the pigment would be more likely to flake off later. Because the plaster was mixed separately for each section, sometimes small variations between plaster ingredients would change the PH Balance and since pigement colors can be affected by PH Balance, this lead some frescos to have color variations over thier surfaces. Considering the size of the ceiling, the lack of variation between pigment colors and the level of detail accomplished, it really was a work of genius. Fun Fact: When they restored the ceiling of the chapel, they found a hair from the paintbrush of Michelangelo embedded in the plaster. The Last Supper is an example of a Mural done by Leonardo Da Vinci. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Last_Supper_(Leonardo_da_Vinci) Leonardo had a very bad habit of being inventive when it came to the composition of pigments and binders for his artwork. Leonardo had all the work of previous artists to know which recipes would yield the longest lifetime for the paint applied to the wall but he couldn't help trying to improve everything. His mural was degrading rapidly and was a nightmare to restore because without knowing what he used, the image might have been damaged more by attempts to remove the grime and dirt of years because it might also remove paint rather then being left alone to flake off in pieces in its own time. It is not uncommon for really old murals to have touch up paintwork done using the oldest paint recipes and techniques. Last Example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Expulsion_from_the_Garden_of_Eden The Expulsion from the Garden of Eden done by Masaccio around 1425, is an example of both a Fresco and a Mural. The fig leaf panted over the male was applied on top of the fresco 300 years after the fresco was painted by decree from Cosimo lll de' Medici. When the fresco was restored recently, the paint was inadvertently removed and we see what it was like before it was censored.
