How to you get marks and dirt off your walls that have FLAT paint without removing the paint? I don’t think it’s scientifically possible.
One of the advantages of flat or matte paint is that you can touch it up without seeing the touch up once dry. Use a mini roller to paint over marks or scuffs.
is about to splash some white paint about in the kitchen to touch-up a few areas that need it. Brush & mini-roller at the ready!
@HaleighKaye no sadly! Haha I just came in for some touch up paint and a mini roller
Yep - you can do this! Also, get a little tester sized jar of paint and a mini roller to touch up the wall once you’ve sanded it
So I was helping touch up the white wall paint at the Elmhurst Art Guild gallery. I was using a two inch wide mini roller. They asked if I was doing the whole wall with such a tiny roller.“No. I’m doing invisible gang signs.”
I’ll paint in the w fashion when I get to the cut edge usually I’ll take a mini roller and touch up the seams by bringing it right to the seam. Sometimes or if I am rolling and I have someone cutting in I’ll bring the full fixed 9 inch roller sideways top bottom and seams with lightly wet roller. I back roll this is go over the work sometimes to reduce the stipple of the nap. I do a combination w with horizontal around the seams and a horizontal vertical over the whole wall. Like teasing the paint with a roller. Stopping and starting out of the strike zone in the final touches. The main idea is move fast enough so by the time you’re at the end of the wall the beginning is just starting to dry. I end up finishing the wet wall in a w pattern double hitting. No loading into corners. I’ll put pressure on the edges of the roller saturating the surface then smooth with the middle of applicator the rest of the way till I redip it in the tray I might do a swirling w in the beginning if the roller is full of paint. I always go to the wall rolling against gravity so the paint hits the wall not the floor. I might tap the roller or clean the Handel off with a rag as I go. I never soak the roller in the paint, if I do I’ll let it drain out a while before I use . I like to tape the nap with blue tape and remove it quickly to fluff the nap . This removes extra hairs on a new roller cover. I’ll tape it like a base ball bat. I like the locking sher lock roller handle.
How permanent do you want it? Temporary with possibility of changing your mind (less likely to harm resale value): paint over with regular acrylic paint from art supplies. It will be water insoluble once dried, and can be scraped off with a plastic spatula or thin pick. Carefully use some acrylic varnish on the paint itself only if you want extra-resitence to scuffs. you may have to patch it up every now and then, depending on how heavy the guitar is gigged. If you want a more permanent job: Know that this is not an easy job, requiring at least journeyman woodwork skills and either a yard, or a very-well ventilated garage or workshop. First up, it would be helpful to know whether it is a Bullet or Affinity Series Squier. The affinity series uses a gloss polyurethane paint finish, which doesn’t dissolve in any kind of solvent so will need to be sanded off. I can’t find any info on what the Bullet series uses; if they use nitrocellulose (which I doubt, as there is a soft ban on VOCs in most countries), you might have a few more stripping and repainting options. because the top coat is a varnish/laquer anyway, the choice of paint is largely preferential (whether emulsion, metallic, high VOC low VOC, etc); As long as it plays nicely with wood, becomes water-repellent once dried, it matters less. Reputed coating manufacturers group paints by their application on their websites. Paints meant for wood should contain less water in their composition for obvious reasons. In the UK I’m reasonably fond of Leyland Trade brand. but go with what your countries big hardware stores sell first, and if nothing appears satisfactory, go to a specialist paint retailer (it will cost a lot more). Don’t buy the cheapest paint: it will be nasty to work with! it can help to look up reviews. Buy more than you think you need, to avoid re-ordering. Read the paint label and recommendations. Read it again, just in case you missed something. Very simplified: remove all the hardware from the guitar, leading it to the empty body. use a circular sanding tool with medium, fine, and very fine disks. Don’t sand too hard, especially around the neck and bridge areas, or your tonal harmonics might end up being off. If in doubt, less is more, especially for the top. Finish off with a manual small sanding block. find a way to suspend the body as you work on it, or you might have to wait more if you paint it one side at a time. use either paint brushes with very fine bristles, or aerosol cans. Cans can only deposit thin layers at a time, and you will have to do more than 2–3 coats needed for a regular paintbrush application. Please be careful around aerosols, the stuff can kill. If feeling dizzy or having a heartburn feeling, stop at once. Roller brushes can apply thinner layers than conventional brushes, but it can be easy to leave streaks if not careful. For a guitar, i would use a smooth polyester mini roller. use 2–3 thin layers of pre-mixed wood primer for furniture. You will have instructions on the tins on how long to wait between coats. primers tend to have both oils and a bit of solvent in them. Primer helps the paint adhere a bit better, provides additional protection from the elements, and helps mask any grains or imperfection in the wood left from sanding. Once ready, from now on, resist the urge to touch the paint until ready. Use nitrile or latex gloves to handle the body. Allow double the time to dry, and start paiting in layers. Again, thinner coats are better, and you might need to apply more coats if you want a particular look. If you want to do a pattern, use paper cut-outs to mask the pattern. Allow plenty of time to dry, again 2–3 times more than what the manufacturer says to be safe. keep in mind that high VOC gloss paint can take ~ 2 weeks to outgas properly. When you feel confident the paint is ready to be covered, use a very high quality wood varnish to cover over your paint. A paint manufacturer might already recommend a varnish on their website. Some varnishes can react or dissolve certain paint types, so please check first. Manufacturers tend towards PU paint because once it cures, that’s it. wet sand the varnish, taking your time, with a very fine sand paper. Another option to strip the caked PU paint off is to use a heat gun and some kind of spatula. You will likely leave marks on the wood this way, so you will certainly need some kind of delicate wood grain filler to cover up the mess, or a light sand-off finish. here are two guides: How to Properly Repaint Your Guitar: A Step by Step Guide DIY: How to Refinish Your Axe
Yes! Ikea cabinets can be repainted. And, repainting them is a great way to give your home an upgrade or a unique finish, without breaking the bank. Though it’s important to remember that if you modify IKEA product in any way, their warranty is no longer valid. As part of my work writing advice on homes, I get the opportunity to read lots about how to make the most of your interiors - especially on a budget. Repainting is one of my favourite ways of updating a space, because it’s something you can easily do yourself, (though it does take a bit of time). There’s a lot of prepping steps, but be patient and don’t skip any. These steps will make sure you get the best possible finish. If you want to repaint the cabinets yourself, here’s what you’ll need: Sandpaper of a few different coarseness levels. Cleaning cloths Household detergent / dish soap (or a pre-prepared cleaner from a hardware store) Primer (try and avoid all-in-one primer and paint, it won’t give as good a finish) Paint (enough for 2 or 3 coats on each cabinet) Polyfilla (optional) Paint brush (preferably a 2-2.5 inch angle sash brush) Mini paint roller (optional) Painter’s tape A screwdriver that fits the screws in your cabinet hinges Cloth or paper to cover the floor and other surfaces in the room you’ll be painting in Painter’s pyramids or similar to prop up the cabinets whilst you’re painting them Vacuum cleaner Protective mask Paints with a finish such as ‘Satin’, ‘Gloss’ or ‘Semi-Gloss’ will last longer than matte or flat finishes, and are easier to clean. So try and pick these finishes if you’re looking to paint kitchen or bathroom cabinets. Once you’ve got all your essential tools, you’re ready to start! First: Remove the Cabinet Doors If your IKEA cabinets are already assembled, use a screwdriver to carefully remove the doors from their hinges. If you’re painting lots of things at once, it can be handy to label each of the doors and their cabinets. A piece of masking tape or painter’s tape can work well as a label. Second: Clean and Cover Using a gentle dish soap, washing up liquid, or specialist cleaner (if you prefer), mixed with water and a cloth, give your cabinets a gentle clean. Wipe down with warm water and leave to dry. Next create a designated painting space. Cover everything in the area - including the floor - with something you don’t mind getting paint on. Third: Spackle and Sand If you’re painting wooden cabinet doors, the grain will show through if you go straight into priming and painting. If you want a smooth finish you’ll need to ‘spackle’ first, (create a smooth surface). To spackle, all you need to do is smooth polyfilla in a thin, even layer, over the cabinet door. You can do this with a putty knife or paint scraper. Whether you decide to spackle your IKEA cabinets or not, you’ll now need to give everything a good sand down. I’d generally recommend using a 220 grit sandpaper - but you can always ask advice from your hardware store. They’ll be able to advise the best grain for the finish on the cabinets you have. Always sand with the grain of the wood, and try not to press down too hard. You’re aiming to achieve a flat, smooth surface. This step is going to produce lots of mess and dust, so make sure you’re wearing a protective mask and are in a well ventilated room, preferably with the windows and doors open. Vacuum up thoroughly after. You should also gently vacuum the cabinet doors with the brush attachment, or wipe them down, so that there’s no dust that’ll get caught in the paint. Fourth: Prime (we will get to the painting soon!) Cover anything you don’t want to be painted with masking tape/painter’s tape. For example hinges, door handles etc. Then, use a paintbrush to apply the primer around the edges of the area you want to be painted. Brush away from the painter’s tape to keep the primer from pooling and leaking underneath. Once the primer is applied around the edges you can switch to a roller for the main surface area if you prefer, or you can stick with the paint brush. The aim is to cover the entire cabinet with a thin, even layer. Make sure the primer is 100% absolutely, completely dry before moving to the next step. Fifth: Sand Again It’s time to get the sand paper out again. This will smooth out the primer, and make absolutely sure you have a flat surface that’s easier for the paint to stick to. This stage is the difference between an amateur DIY job and one that looks professionally done. As before, vacuum up all the dust once you’re done. Finally - the painting bit! In exactly the same way as you did the primer, start to paint. You’ll need to paint about 2 layers, so try not to apply it too thickly. If you’re painting both sides of the doors, the painters pyramids will be useful. They’ll let you reach every part of the cabinet without having to touch the wet paint. If you think you’re going to be using more than one can of paint, and want the colour to be completely uniform, pour all the cans into one pot and mix it all together. This will get rid of any differences in colour. Once you’re done ,let the paint dry. Don’t rush to pick the cabinets up. If you smudge the paint you’ll have to do the process all over again, so check the back of the paint cans for a guide on how long to wait before moving them. Then admire your beautiful and unique modified IKEA cabinets!

I would say China is just a piece of lovely land where human live on. It’s like a teenager who is full of trouble but also full of hope. It’s rush towards modernisation while remains it’s own unique culture and value. Even if Chinese people weselves can not answer your question. However I can show you how I grow up, how my life is like, and what I’ve seen since I have memory. I was born in early 1990s in Nanjing, a relatively big city in East Coast, where people love eating ducks! Food here are not spicy and quite sweet. My family is a normal middle class family. Both of my parents are engineers, my mom has a degree in Telecommunication engineer, my dad has a diploma in construction engineering. My mom came from a small town called “Yixing”. Yi Xing,，famous for unique pottery tea pot. Both my grandpa and my grandma didn’t finish their middle school and went to work at age about 13, earn money for their younger siblings. My grandpa worked as a labour for building small dam near Yixing, eating only 100g rice everyday. He said even if a little pickled radish would make he and his coworkers very happy. Pickled Radish,, we have them with porridge and boiled egg at breakfast. Later, he got a job in a state owned agriculture equipment company, he also wrote articles for a local newspaper. My grandma worked as a waitress at a state-owned restaurant at first, then she studied accounting herself and become an accountant in the restaurant. They have two daughters, my mom and my aunty. Both did very well in study but my grandparents can only support one to university. That’s my mom, so my aunt went for a nurse diploma. This is how YiXing looks like in 1990s. In my memory，24 hr electricity, tap water and TV signal can be approached without problem. My mom worked in a state-owned telecommunication company and my dad worked in a private construction company. Mom earns more money at that time, so she is the big boss of our family. Even now, dad earns 3 times of money than mom earns, her number is till “big boss” on dad’s phone. ,Chinese men in southern part of China are generally very nice to their wives. ,Dad gives every penny he earns to mom, when he needs something, he asks mom to buy for him. Men holding bag for their wives are seen everywhere in cities. Our president does that too. Huge state-owned companies, ,jobs here are, ,stable, but your salary would have a smaller growing space. Both my mom and Dad worked very busy, so I stay with my grandparents in Yixing from 1–3 years old. We stay in a 30 aquare meter small apartment. But I own some nice toys like Lego, Barbie, and roller skating shoes. My grandpa’s pension is about 1k RMB per month from 1990s to 2000, and that slowly grow to 5k RMB in 2010, because he was a civil servent. My grandma’s Pension is about 0.5k rmb, and grows to 1k RMB in 2005 and leveled everafter. After age 3, I went to Nanjing for kindergarten. I live with my parents and my grandpa(dad's father) in a 50 square meter apartment. Both my parents working, so we have a helper to bring me home from kindergarten. She also cook dinner and do some cleaning for us. About 3 hours work a day, and She has a day off every Sunday. We do not call the helper “maid”, we call her aunty. We paid her about 500 RMb every month at that time, and we pay her 1200 RMB per month now. We called them “hour workers” in China. ,Both Husband and Wife have a full time job is very normal in big cities. We had several helpers during the years. The first helpers is an old woman who get little pension. She was quite lazy and cannot do work well, so my dad fired her. The second helpers is a middle age woman who has a half day job as a seller at shopping mall. She is very hardworking and very nice. But she worked for us only 3 years and started a small business of her own later on. The last one named Wang, worked for us for nearly 10 years. She is a young lady come from rural areas. She didn’t continue get education after middle school. She also has a half day job as a cleaner at my mom’s company and come to my home in the afternoon. In the evening, she went to wish dishes at restaurants. She works nearly 14 hours a day. Wang married to a man come from small town in another province. Her husband is a cook at a school. Two of them together earn about 6000 RMB per month which makes them quite hard to live in a city like Nanjing. Yet they are very strict with their son’s study. She often said to her Son:” your mom and dad have such a hard live because we don’t know the importance of study. If you want to live better than us, work harder!” Nanjing grandpa is a oil painting professor of Nanjing University of the Arts. He travels a lot and stay at home about only 2 months every year. Nanjing University of the Arts He’s pension is about 2500 RMb from 1990 to 2010. But he can earn quite some money by selling his paintings. Below are Some of his paintings.I can’t get high quality pictures from the internet~~ He lives in local’s home when travel out and do paintings. Grandpa thinks clothes over 200 RMB is Super expensive, but he thinks that a camera of 50k would be very reasonable. So he wears super cheap clothes almost no different from a poor old famer ，but owns over 10 digital cameras and many lenses. He gives his old cameras to others when he gets a new baby. My Nanjing Grandpa, born in 1919, who went through all the tregedies of China, Japanese invasion, culture revolution, and three years of hunger, still stay lively, optimistic and kind. He also owns an Ipad, an iPad mini, a Lenovo notebook, and a special designed “old people cellphone”. Yixing Grandpa bought an table computer in 2002. The old men are kin on learning new things like computers. But it really needs a lot of patience to teach them. Yixing grandpa even went to a computer course for old people. Old people University Old people friendly cellphone,, with big numbers on buttons and screens, only very basic functions and an emergency button. less than 200 RMB. After the old people cellphone is highly praised by Nanjing grandpa, mom bought another 10 of this kind of cellphones when we go back to YiXing for Chinese New Year, because grandparents each have 7 siblings, and mom gave the cellphones to them as new year presents. In 2010, the government of Jiangsu province said:“we should be more respect to those tenants! Give professors better life!” So my grandpa’s(dad’s Father) pension suddenly rised up to over 10k per month. However, one of my dad’s Cousin got leukemia at about 2011. In China, very few people buy insurance, if you’re not covered by your company, a critical illness means family bankruptcy. My grandpa support his brother and nephew 100k at first, then 9k every month, and leave only 1k to himself. 36% of poverties in east coast area are cause by illness and high medical bills. hospitals in china are much cheaper than the westerners，our doctors are severely underpaid，for example，an operation for appendicitis will cost less than 8000RMB，but cost up to 20k US dollar in a public hospital or 40k dollar in a private hospital in west countries. however, with the lack of commercial insurance coverage，most family still get into trouble when they encounter with illness. Premiums paid to Hongkong insurance company, from mainland china costumers A ,helping platform on wechat,，where people need help post their situation and needs( mostly raising money for poor children or people with illness). People can give them money through WeChat thransfer, and can post their donations on ,WeChat Moments, (same function as Instagram). In 1998, my family move to a new 70 square meter apartment. My mom asked me if I want to learn piano like my Cousin. ( I’m the only child in family, but I have a Cousin 4 months older than me. We are very close to each other. I call him brother. ) I saw my cousin was beaten by his Father with a belt when practicing piano, and he cried so loudly that I’m so afraid of piano. So I said “ I Don’t want to learn piano!” Then my mom sent me to a ballet class. At that time, few kids learn something else besides school studies. Around 2002 to 2003, Chinese government come up with a concept of “,quality education,”，means “ Our Childern should not be a learning machine, but they also have to have something else.” And the schools begin to have painting classes, dancing classes, music instruments classes, or sports like ping pang and basket ball etc. Parents sent their children to all kind of classes at weekends. As a good student, you just have to have some skill. Even our helper Wang sent her Son to electronic piano lesson at weekends. The classes are not cheap for her, but she managed to save the budget for her son’s education. Ballet class ,（examiners from Britain Royal Academy of Dance to come to Shanghai ) In 2000, Mom finished her part time master course in University, and got a master degree. In 2002, mom bought a new apartment in Yixing for her parents. House price is Low in small towns, so the apartment is quite large about 130 square meters. How YiXing looks like in 2015,. Grandpa is so proud of this small town, that he writes a lot of articles to praise government’s work on newspapers. Small towns in East Coast are quite very nice. Grandpa also writes to government about problems. Things like the disapear drain cover on road, preserve ancient road name, expensive parking fees, welfare of famers at rural near YiXing and many other things. Everytime, he has several quarrels with the officers in different government department. If it doesn’t work, he finds some retired Former leader of that government department he know or his friends know, and give some pressure to the government officers. Most problems would be solved in this way. People do not have any friends in government sometimes come to my grandpa, and asking for help. Advice for Government Office,，you can ask for bonus, welfare or telling troubles, unfair things to government. kind of a fake and useless department. But if you know someone who is a leader, this office can become very efficient immediately ~~ Most of the time, people have to fight for quite a Long time before problems can be solved. However I have to say that, I’ve never seen police use violence towards these people. If the government don’t want to solve the problem, they just simply ignore them. In 2003, we bought our first car, a blue VW Polor. I was the first to have a car in my family among my classmates. When I got into middle school, 2/3 of my classmates’ family owns a car. 2006 to 2015 private cars sales volume 2005, we had another apartment of 100 square meters near city’s CBD. It’s very noise to live there, and the air quality at city centre is terrible too. So we rent the apartment to a couple come from Inner Momgolia. They come to Nanjing for whool business. Nanjing CBD Xin Jiakou in 1990s The look of Xinjiakou now. Statue of Sun Yetstian at centre of Nanjing,. He is the founder of Republic Of China, Nanjing used to be the capital of ROC, which the government is in Taiwan now. In 2007, I have my first passport and join a summer camp to Singapore. It was my first time to travel abroad and see the outside world of China. I went to see the University campus there. The library is just too good to be true for me. Later on my mom take me to some famous university campus in US. When I come back to China, I asked my mom if it’s possible for me to study abroad. I’m worried about the high tuition fee. I’m worried if I go abroad university, my family would get into trouble if someone get critical illness like the family of my father’s Cousin. My mom told me there is just nothing to worried about. In 2008, I finished my middle school and all 8 level ballet courses During the Long summer holiday without any homework, I thought I must find something to do. So I became a volunteer guide in Nanjing Museum. Nanjing Museum,（built in 1933，renewed in 2010） Ticket free!!( over 420k piece of antiques here！） In the museum, there is a fun place where you can feel like being in 1920s at the period of Republic of China There is also a tea house where you can enjoy Traditional Chinese opera Kun Ju (free to watch the show, but have to pay 20 RMB for tea and snacks) Kun Ju I also volunteered to be a tutor for poor students who do not have money go to a after school classes. Class in China school is big. Normally 50 students a class. Most of the classrooms in nanjing high school are equipped with computer，projecter，speakerbox（,chinese teacher use speaker in classroom，,because the classroom is too big and too many students, can be sometimes very noisy. We have all classes in one class room all together. It’s impossible for teacher to follow every students’ pace. Students have to follow the teacher. If not, you have to go to after school classes. Almost everyone go after school classes. We have ,different classification of classes,, usually normal class, quick class and elite class. We have monthly exams for all classes in same grade, and rank the marks of all students in that grade. In my school, 800 students in one grade, if your rank drops out of 80, you have to went out from elite class to lower class. Students in quick class or normal class have higher rank can come into elite class. It’s a shame to drop out of elite class and lose face. Pressure is Huge～～My class, the elite class, usually had the worst result in school’s sports meeting. And that’s no shame of us. The slogan of our class is “do our best to be the 2nd”, we mean “ the 2nd last, do our best to not to be the last.” 课外辅导班 after school classes. ,Sometimes advances maths or Olympic maths, sometimes computing or physics. Olympic Maths,, nightmare of every Chinese student My student was a girl 2 years younger than me, whose mom got some mental problem after divorce. The only income of her family is a small street restaurant operate by her grandma. I tought her maths, physics and chemistry and she got better score in school which makes me so happy. In most Chinese schools, students admire good study students. If a boy wants to be popular amount girls, he’d better be smart and good at study. If someone is good at sports but can hardly pass an exam, he is “silly strong guy” instead of a “cool guy”. (My mom sent my to a middle school computing class when I was about elementary school 4th grade and I had a really bad time there. Later on, I just hate computers, hate to touch it and do not play computer games which saves me a lot of time to learn other things like Guzheng, roller blading and Taekwondo ~~~~) Guzheng，,(2000 RMB, pretty cheap and easy to learn.) My cousin and his friends spend a lot of time on computer games. PCG, Starcraft, the King of Fighters, ,and CS ,are the tree most popular games in 2003 to 2005，after 2005, online game ,Legend of Sword and Fairy (PAL), become very popular among both girls and boys. Then LOL, Dota also become very popular here. Legend of Sword and Fairy,, the most popular chinese online game(2005 to 2008) Tencent smart phone game ,Honour of King ,is the most popular In China now. People do some sports and excercises in ,Xuan Wu Lake park ,or other Parks ,in Nanjing,. Not much people go to gym，membership fee would be too expensive for most chinese. i went to high school and continue my ballet dancing at vocational level. Only 5 students remains in high level class. Most students quit because of heavy study at school. My Cousin also quit his piano after middle school. I also spend quite a lot time on studying English and prepare to apply for a university abroad. Exams we have to pass to study abroad. In 2010, high speed railway train between ShangHai and Nanjing was built. My dad got a chance to work for another private construction company in Suzhou. The job would pay him twice as much as he can earn at that time. Since the it takes only 1.5 hour to get to Suzhou on a high speed train, and the railway station connected to an undergound line towards our home, he decided to take that job and make more money for me to study abroad. Suzhou Railway Station，,traditional modern. Suzhou industry Park Old Suzhou gardens In 2011, I went study abroad. Children of my mom and dad’s friends all go abroad for university. About 2/3 of students in 1st class high schools in Nanjing would go study abroad. I’ve now worked abroad for 2 years. Mom and dad sold one of the old apartment and bought a new apartment of 140 square meters last year. I’m now thinking about going back to China, there are more exciting opportunists and it’s happier to live with mom and dad. My family story end up here. During my growing up, I can see people are poor, people are suggling for a living, I can see sellers in underground passways to sell small goods in winter, I can see quite a lot beggers outside the temple, I can see how much the leaders in our government are corrupt and I can breathe the polluted air at winter everytime I went back for Chinese New Year. However, the best thing about China is that’s its getting better and better, and I can feel that. Before I leave Nanjing, we have 2 underground lines, now, 10. Before I leave here, garbages are everywhere in public but now much less, before I leave here no one ques, now most people learn to stand in lines. This a land full of hope. Full of baggers in the way to this temple( Ji Ming Si) Venders at underground pass,，cool in summer and warm in winter～
I’ll paint the crown molding trim color. You should use almond caulk if you use wall paper, white if you paint it. Never clear, I think it’s best to prime after you sand bare wood. Popular wood is Poplar I like to sand before you install raw unprimed. Prime all surfaces front and back then install. Prime all cuts with spray paint, this helps everything fit tight. Be sure to prime knots if any with shellack caulking primed sanded wood is critical wipe down after caulking and sanding. Avoid the caulk that is not set up. Set and fill all nails with putty knife and nail set. Sand before painting with 180 grit Sandpaper Don’t forget to tack off the woodwork with a tack cloth after you sand primer with 220 remember that when using oil a tack cloth clean rag dipped in paint thinner is better. Now all the caulking is dry to touch 24 hours later you put the first coat of oil on and don’t load into corners slight wet worked brush into the seams of the trim crown. Tap and teaser at the end to prevent lap marks. This is all done before the ceiling paint and wall paint goes on so you over paint not leaving brush strokes. Look at the line that the stick lamp behind you makes on the horizon of the ceiling and wall carry that lamp with you placing it behind you to have a consistent horizon behind you have other low lights on to give you a less harsh line. Of course use the brightest light right aside or behind you to keep it perfect . So brush with a lightly tapped out sash brush 2 and one half inches rat tail handle. Purdy manes affordable good brushes. You really can’t do a good job without a lightly new brush if youre doing dark colors,if you can’t get it right do it Hollywood style .brush up to the inside peak the wall paint and the nearest peak next to the ceiling.this looks amateur but. Tell them it will not have a reflection in the trim paint . This sells the idea of doing it Hollywood. Best way is trim, on crown wipe edge with paint thinner ,wear gloves have a bunch of rags and don’t use a wet brush lol.double drop the carpet. Tuck tape under the floor boards, then tape runner to tape.drop whole room over that. This reason is standing on Top of a Two step stoned at 10 0clock in the morning yore guaranteed to drop the can of paint. Use the wall to brace you so you know which way you are in the room sometimes the step off the wrong way on my ladders and break my leg. But the elbow aha isn’t the wall or shoulder is easier if you’re feeling nervous then eventually with the light and being relaxed the paint will flow like silk from the brush, I like to just over paint the crown then cut and roll the walls then the crown paint dries you just over paint the ceiling to the crown seam where wall and ceiling meet the wood work . Will be just about perfect and do a final cut on the crown. Make this cut perfect, over paint just a touch on the wall let dry come in next day and paint final coat on wall and quick sand on the baseboard and done, primed filled then sanded and primed twice caulked between letting everything dry is recommended slightly over painting saves time and makes the final coat look precise refine each overpaint on seam cut as you go taking most time on the wall. roll along with a foam mini roller if you can’t keep the brushstrokes to less than a rodeo. Don’t paint when caulk isn’t completely dry. Bigger gaps need heat up or ac on to cure and the carpenter should do some minimal caulking in big gaps.sometimes skim coat just in the corners helps with a sanding block. Neat corners are important before and after caulking. This makes cutting in easier. Use a putty knife and a five in one in corners fixing damage in corners as you sand with fast and final. So priming all fast and final twice will prevent flashing in final coat. Sand with 180. Keep heat up and windows open with a fan running in window. Keep heat on while caulk sets up. Tape can be used but I think it looks cheep.
This would be the trip of a lifetime! I did something similar between 2010–2014. Harbor hopping is more fun, but takes much longer than heading out to sea and taking the trade winds. If you want to stop at night at anchor when possible and avoid periods of bad weather, I would want 3 months or more to get to San Francisco from Miami. Traversing the Panama Canal can take over a week alone. You will probably average 100nm a day on a 40ft sailboat if you stop to sleep on occasion at Bays and Harbors. If your sailing near shore, you will not have any trade winds, only thermal, so on many occasions you will need to motorsail. Typically afternoons thro evenings are best. Also be aware, that when you go thro the Panama Canal and start heading north, you will be sailing directly into the prevailing weather and current, meaning you have to motor sail. If you only have sail power, it will require you to sail the pacific high via Hawaii then NE up to latitude 50 before heading SE for San Francisco. This will take another few weeks at least. So ensure you have a strong engine and can maintain 5–6 knots in all conditions. You will need to carry around 50 gallons of extra fuel for unpopulated areas like Baja. Consider shipping the boat if you have trouble with long sea passages and rough weather. Choosing the right time of year is critical to avoid hurricanes below latitude 24 and strong Pacific NW winds. Planning your route and getting permits/visas will take time. Here is my 42ft boat anchored of a small village in southern Mexico, fitted out for the 2000nm passage north to San Francisco. It took me a year to prepare for the trip. Here are some of the items I added to the stock boat to prepare it for the long offshore passages. Icom M802 SSB and pactor USB modem so I can receive weather faxes on my Dell netbook PC. Insulated antenna on backstay. Iridium 9555 Satellite phone with data kit. I like that I can receive text messages from a regular cell phone for free EPIRB with GPS for emergencies. Spectra 200T water-maker Webasto 16000 BTU reverse cycle A/C heating/cooling system for use in Marinas New North 125% Norlam laminate head-sail. AirBreeze 160W wind-vane to complement my 3 solar panels. Viking RescYou 4 man life-raft canister on deck. FlexoFold 18x13 folding prop. This improves speed and steering dramatically. Wichard JibEasy boom-brake. It works well for such a simple device. 2nd smaller symmetrical spinnaker. Spinnaker pole for use with my new 125% headsail for extended downwind legs. Emergency tiller and emergency rudder. ATN storm jib. This slips over my roller furling jib. New Zincs and touch up bottom paint. Mount a 1.25" track on the mast to mount the spinnaker pole. ACR AIS class B system integrated into a new Raymarine C120W (at Nav Station) and existing Raymarine 80 head (at Binnacle) with radar. Dell Inspiron Mini 10 Netbook for downloading NOAA weather GRIB files and controlling Iridium modem. Storm sea anchor chute and blocks/lines. Find insurance for Mexico that covered me single-handing. Replace all 4D batteries with 6v cart batteries. An increase to 720a/h from 400 a/h! Spare batteries for all on-board equipment. GPS / EPIRB / computers / radios etc. Wash-down pump for on deck use. Replace main water pump. Install 12v Caframo Bora fans in all cabins. Yamaha 15hp and 2hp outboards for dinghy. 10ft Avon dinghy. Get my PADI open water diving certification. Full set of diving gear / tanks. Charts for the Pacific ocean. Spare dock lines and extra fenders. Manson Supreme 45lb primary anchor. 4 Deckmounted 5gl fuel cans. Honda EU2000i generator. Replace all incandescent bulbs with LED bulbs. Install hatch covers for shade. Install a 2nd 110v inverter with pure sine wave output to run sensitive devices like smartphones/computers. Unless your a hardcore sailor and an adventurer, don't try this on any boat under 30ft. Very few people have the skills to make this journey, even with a big boat and a crew. If you can do it, it will be one of the highlights of your life. Going under the Golden Gate Bridge into San Francisco Bay at the end is awe inspiring. Good luck and fair winds.

Cabinet Pulls Replacing cabinet pulls or knobs is a quick way to give your kitchen a mini facelift without breaking the bank. This Family Handyman home improvement article is an especially good walkthrough, loaded with tips and tricks that are often learned only after making a mess of a cabinet door. Why it’s a great starter project:, Replacing cabinet pulls can be as simple as unscrewing the old and attaching the new. But there’s often some issue that pops up at one point or another. And it’s possible to patch a small tear, but you can also replace an entire screen. This is a great beginner DIY home improvement that will help keep insects out of your home and make your windows or screen doors more attractive. Why it’s a great starter project:, Removing the window screen will help familiarize you with the mechanics of your windows. And this will come in handy down the road when it’s time to do some maintenance on the windows themselves. What it gives you an excuse to buy,: The materials for this repair are inexpensive and will last for more than one window, which means you’ll have them on hand the next time a screen is damaged. A roll of replacement screening and the rubber spline that holds it in place are easily obtained. And a spline roller makes the replacement quick and easy. It’s possible to secure the spline without using a roller. Often times a flat screwdriver or old credit card can pop the spline into place. But the spline roller makes things go smoother and decreases the risk of damaging the spline during installation. And a spline roller lasts forever! Door Fixes Over time, your home’s interior doors may stick or fail to latch. The home improvement fix will depend on the cause—humidity, too many layers of paint and settling all require different strategies to get the door back to fully functional. Balance your Furnace Dampers Furnace vent lines have a metal damper that can be used to reduce their flow with the turn of a handle. By balancing them correctly, you can direct your furnace’s output to the areas of your home that need them the most. Why it’s a great starter project,: A great project for two-story homes in climates where there is a large seasonal temperature swing, it will also get you acquainted with the way your furnace functions. Also, it’s always less stressful to learn about your furnace on your timeline, instead of waiting until you don’t have heat in the middle of winter. And in this case, you’ll also be reducing your heating and cooling expense. What it gives you an excuse to buy,: Depending on the height of your basement or crawlspace, you may need a ladder to reach the trunk lines or a headlamp to see them easily. And either of these items will be used dozens if not hundreds of times over your DIY career. If you want to know more then I suggest you check out this link ,Electricians home improvements,.
I used the 5 gallon buckets of joint compound with about a quart of actual semi-gloss paint mixed in to thin and color the mud. Mix with a 1/2″ drill and mud mixer. Do not use water. You can make it any color you want and acts like your first coat of paint. I applied the mixture with a texture roller in a straight up and down and V pattern leaving a consistant stipple. The stipple should look like mini petels of a pineapple all the same length throughout the wall and house. Give that a day of drying good using a dehumidifier. There will be a lot of water removed. I then lightly scraped the stipple off, just the tips, leaving a consistant texture. You can use a 6″ to 12″ rectangular trowel or mud knife. Use very light pressure against the wall and cover your floors. The last step is to paint a final coat. This method has been on my walls since 1986, transforming walls that looked like a patchwork quilt into a single consistant texture. In all that time, there are only a couple of chips from something hitting the wall. A rental property may get rougher use. It was a lot of work but the whole house is done that way. In hindsight I would have skim-coated the whole house and lightly sanded leaving a smooth finish. I have done houses with the spray hopper also. The application time is faster but until you get used to it, the consistency suffers. You need to mask everything you do not want paint on and still have to de-stipple and paint. Don’t bother with the texture in a spray can. It instantly clogs. I prefer no texture at all now. I just make it all smooth as silk. But on old houses, the roller method is best. Even if you find an imperfection after your final coat of paint over a smooth finish, you can still apply more mud, sand lightly and touch up the paint. You never see all imperfections until you paint it. Any way you do it, it is messy.
