After facing much criticism for not taking battery EVs (BEVs) seriously enough, Toyota announced on Friday that it will be launching 10 new BEV models by 2026, contributing 1.5 million units to the company’s annual sales. This will include a new generation BEV that Toyota’s product chief and Executive Vice-President Hiroki Nakajima says, “...will double driving range by using batteries with far greater efficiency, while also offering designs and driving performance to set hearts racing.” Nakajim

When Geely took over 49.9 percent of Proton, it stated a bold promise of turning around the ailing Malaysian national car maker into the third biggest car brand in Southeast Asia’s ASEAN trade bloc – which comprises of 10 member countries. Five years into the 10-year plan, Proton finished 2022 with 141,432 cars sold, giving it a 19.6 percent market share in Malaysia. Well there's one segment Toyota has got some catching up to do: the Thais have voted with their wallets to crown their favourite C-segment sedan of 2022, and it's the Honda Civic (FE). 10,338 units of the Civic found new owners there last year.
