So you're moving to the next stage in life, with two kids and spouse in tow. Mid-life crisis or not, you want a weekend toy, but deep down you know that a 2-door supercar is now out of the question. Yet, you long for something that enthralls, excites and quickens the pulse.

Something that is suave like agent 007, practical enough to face the daily grind, with performance that will leave your mouth dry. Enter James Bond's carriage of choice, the Aston Martin DBX, a five-door SUV that effortlessly blends pace, style and usability in one car. Here's why its such a brilliant package.

108 years of rich Aston Martin heritage

Let's not kid ourselves, the Aston Martin name carries with it plenty of emotion, heritage and legacy, beyond the James Bond references. You don't stick around for 108 years (yes, Aston Martin turned 108 in January) if you're not a carmaker of some ability and stature. Even till this very day, every Aston Martin - DBX included - is lovingly, proudly handbuilt in the United Kingdom.

The DBX however, rolls out from Aston Martin's new manufacturing facility in St Athan, Wales while the rest of the marque's models continue to be built in Gaydon, England. Regardless, you can be sure that when you buy an Aston Martin, you are getting the very best of British craftsmanship, build quality and attention to detail.

Testament of that British craftsmanship is the Aston Martin emblem sitting on both ends of the DBX's exterior. These emblems are handmade by Vaughtons, a specialist British manufacturer specialising in products such as automotive badges, and have been around since 1819.

So you see, everything about an Aston Martin has a riveting backstory to it, and it lives on in every new model that leaves the factory gates. An Aston Martin is no mere mode of transportation, it's a statement, with a uniquely British presence.

Performance, usability and style for five

You can't talk about Aston Martin and not speak about its performance in the same breath. And yes, performance is something the DBX has in reserves. Blessed with one of the most evocative and emotional engines in recent times, the DBX's 4.0-litre, twin-turbo V8 engine puts it in the major supercar leagues.

How does 550 PS and 700 Nm sound? Not convinced? How about 4.5 seconds from 0-100 km/h, and a 291 km/h top speed? Paired with a smooth yet lightning-fast 9-speed automatic transmission

Key to the DBX being a performance SUV for any scenario lies in its Damptronic® Sky adaptive air suspension system. With a total of six adaptive drive modes (4 on-road, 2 off-road), the driver can keep things comfortable when ferrying people, or turn up the wick when the roads become tasty.

Add the active all-wheel drive system into the mix, and the DBX really is a car for all occasions. Supple and sedate one moment, hunkered down and bristling with intent the next.

To live up to being a 'supercar fit for a family', the DBX excels in everyday usability. It will comfortably sit four adults in utmost comfort, with plenty of head and legroom for everyone. Storage spaces are well thought out too, befitting of a generation of users that carry multiple gadgets and devices.

Speaking of devices, the DBX is not short of technology inside. Dual digital screens adorn the beautifully-wrought dashboard (12.3" for the driver, 10.25" for the center console). With an infotainment that is Apple CarPlay-ready, and a 14-speaker, 800-watt sound system, all your entertainment needs are taken care of.

3-zone climate control and ventilated seats all round ensures that all occupants are kept cool even in sweltering conditions. Furthermore, there's a whopping 632 litres of boot space to gobble up any luggage you might want to bring for a quick weekend getaway, or a round of golf at the country club.

The most fundamental appeal of the Aston Martin DBX lies in its ability to be so multi-faceted. It is a car you bring out for that special, black-tie event, yet it is equally adept at crushing long-distance trip should the need arise.

The most handcrafted and sumptuous of cabins

It goes without saying, spending time inside of the DBX is one of the core highlights of the experiencing what an Aston Martin is all about. Moreover, it is in the cabin that occupants will spend the most time in. With that, Aston Martin has left no stone unturned when it comes to indulging occupants in the DBX.

Make no mistake, when it comes to the interior of the DBX, only the best and most opulent materials are selected. The centrepiece in here is the rich, supple full-grain Caithness leather that adorns much of the cabin.

This leather is procured from Bridge of Weir, a family-owned company in Scotland that has been leather artisans since 1905. Think of this Caithness leather as the automotive equivalent of a finely-tailored, bespoke suit for agent 007 himself.

All this, while bathing in the glow of natural lighting afforded by the full-length panoramic glass roof above. Life really doesn't get much better than this.
