When Hyundai Sime Darby Malaysia (HSDM) opened bookings for the 2020 Hyundai Kona, we also reported that the B-segment SUV is expected to be priced around RM 1,1x,xxx but no other info was released. Now HSDM has confirmed that prices will start from RM 115,000 onwards.
Based on our leaked information, HSDM will be offering 3 variants at launch; 2.0 Standard, 2.0 Mid, 1.6 T-GDi High. Looks like the 2.0 Standard will be the variant priced at RM 115,000. We can estimate that the top-spec 1.6 T-GDi variant will be priced at least RM 130k.

With prices starting at RM 115,000, the base Hyundai Kona is RM 10,000 more expensive than the base Honda HR-V which starts at RM 104,000. Prices for the HR-V rounds off at RM 128,800 but this is the HR-V Hybrid variant, it would be interesting to see if the Kona will match or be more expensive than the Hybrid.
At the moment, the Hyundai Kona looks to be one of the most modern B-segment SUV contenders in Malaysia. The range-topping 1.6 T-GDi High variant will get Hyundai Smart Sense ADAS suite while Android Auto and Apple CarPlay is available on all variants.

But when the Kona arrives, it will still face stiff competition not only from existing rivals like the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3 but from soon-to-launch rivals like the Proton X50 as well.
