After a 7-year hiatus, Mazda is set to reintroduce a hotter, performance-oriented Mazda 3.

The Hiroshima-based company didn’t say much, only going to as far as saying “Power comes to those who wait” on Twitter, in addition to a short 13-second video posted on YouTube. The video hints that the model will be launched on 8-July.

Earlier this month, leaked dealer information revealed that Mazda is planning for a “Mazda3 HP PP Turbo”, hinting that the turbocharged mill is only destined for the sleeker-looking hatchback.

We can expect Mazda to fit the 2.5-litre turbocharged SkyActiv-G from the larger CX-5 Turbo/CX-9, producing 250 PS and 420 Nm. Keep in mind that the 250 PS figure is achieved when premium 93 octane fuel is used. Output is capped at 230 PS when regular 87 octane is used.

What about Malaysia?

Considering that the more potent turbocharged Mazda 6 isn’t offered in Malaysia, we won’t hold our breath for the arrival of the turbocharged Mazda 3 here.
