It's finally here. Seeing that the debut of the highly-anticipated Perodua D55L is just around the corner, Perodua has just opened bookings for the new SUV. Prices are expected to start from RM 62,500 to RM73,400 (on-the-road, without insurance).
Set to go on sale soon, the Perodua D55L is the company’s first-ever model to be developed on the DNGA platform – a derivative of Toyota’s TNGA platform but for budget compact cars.
Depending on who you ask, the D55L is an A/B segment SUV that undercuts the Proton X50, with smaller dimensions too. Yes, we are aware that the two are not direct rivals but consumers are expected to cross-shop between the D55L and X50 nonetheless.
As speculated before, the Perodua D55L is powered by a turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol engine that does 98 PS and 140 Nm. The sole transmission option is a CVT-type automatic that sends drive to the front wheels. Perodua also says that the D55L is able to return 5.29 litre/100 km (18.9 km/litre).
With 98 PS and 140 Nm at its disposal, the Perodua D55L doesn’t sound like a powerhouse, but keep in mind that for a car that weighs less than a tonne, its power-to-weight ratio should be pretty good.
The Perodua D55L also gets a 7-inch digital instrument cluster and a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display with voice recognition.
Colour options for the Perodua D55L include two carried-over colours (Glittering Silver and Granite Grey) and three new colours (Cobalt Blue, Pearl Diamond White, and Pearl Delima Red). The latter two are available with a two-tone black roof option.
Perodua has also confirmed today that Perodua D55L is their first model to feature the latest ASA 3.0 ADAS suite. Yes, ADAS suite, as the range-topping AV variant includes features such as Lane Keep Control, Blind Spot Monitor, Rear Cross Traffic Alert and Adaptive Cruise Control. In fact, all variants of the Perodua D55L come equipped with Lane Departure Warning and Prevention.
