Spied, spotted and recently teased, we finally see the Malaysia-bound 2022 Hyundai Stargazer in all its glory – which looks just like a baby Hyundai Staria.
Thanks to Indonesian automotive sleuth Indra Fathan, we now have the first unmasked images of the Stargazer, scooped from promotional material highlighting the exterior, interior, and highlight features such as the Hyundai SmartSense ADAS suite.
At the front, besides the previously teased horizontal daytime running light (DRL) bar, the Stargazer features wide grille finished in contrasting grey which is flanked by a headlight cluster similar to the Staria.
Down the side, there are hints of the Mitsubishi Xpander, as seen from the design of the wheel arches and creases in the bodywork from front to back. But rest assured, that’s about where the similarities end.
From the images we also see an intricate wheel design, which we suspect could be 16 or even 17 inches in diameter.
Round the back, the Stargazer is unmistakeable, thanks its distinctive H-shaped rear lamp signature which borders the rear windscreen. Further down the chiselled tailgate, we say a number plate garnish with the Stargazer script. The rear bumper is finished with an rear apron in contrasting silver.
The singular shot (so far) of the interior gives us a good view of the 7-seaters seating arrangement. Besides the airy ambience, we notice a contrasting blue trim on the dashboard set just below the air-con vents and central infotainment unit.
There are also hints of the Hyundai Elantra sedan when we look at the steering wheel, with the two spoke steering wheel and gearshifter assembly.
Besides the aesthetics, we also now know that the Stargazer will be offered with host of convenience equipment - such as the 4.2-inch TFT colour LCD meter cluster, 8-inch display audio touchscreen and wireless spamrtphone charging.
And finally on safety front, the Stargazer is confirmed to feature the Hyundai SmartSense ADAS suite which includes Forward-Collision Avoidance assist (FCA), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA), blind spot assist, and Rear Cross-traffic Collision-avoidance Assist, or RCTA as it's better known.
Details are still scarce about the powertrain of the Stargazer but it is suspected to based on the same platform as the Kia Carens which made its global debut in India in 2021.
Likewise, it could be powered by the Kia Carens' naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre unit which developes 115 PS/144 Nm, driving the front wheels.
Arvind can't remember a time when he didn't wheel around a HotWheels car. This love evolved into an interest in Tamiya and RC cars and finally the real deal 1:1 scale stuff. Passion finally lead to formal training in Mechanical Engineering. Instead of the bigger picture, he obsesses with the final drive ratio and spring rates of cars and spends the weekends wondering why a Perodua Myvi is so fast.
