As the saying goes – power is nothing, without control – but you best believe, the 2022 Next Gen Ford Ranger attacks every terrain with power, precision and control… anytime and anywhere!

The 2022 Next Gen Ranger is offered in two powertrain guises across its 6 variants - a 2.0-litre single-turbo four-cylinder and the more powerful 2.0-litre bi-turbo unit, matched to an equally potent AWD system.

Supplied in selected Ranger XL and certain XLT variants is the proven 2.0-litre single-turbo four-cylinder which delivers a dependable 170 PS and maximum torque of 405 Nm from 1,750-2,500 rpm.

The 2022 Next Gen Ranger XLT Plus and Wildtrak variants get the proven 2.0-litre bi-turbo four-cylinder which discharges 210 PS and a whopping 500 Nm of torque (between 1,750 – 2,000 rpm) making it the most powerful pickup truck engine on sale today.

The bi-turbo engine boasts a clever bypass system meaning the two turbochargers can operate in series (at lower engine speeds for enhanced torque and responsiveness), or individually with the smaller turbo bypassed to allow the larger turbocharger to deliver a salvo of boost at higher engine speeds.

Besides its potent AWD system, the 2022 Next Gen Ranger XLT Plus and Wildtrak variants add on a rear differential lock which can be activated via the SYNC4A screen. A differential lock allows both wheels on a specific axle to turn at the same speed providing maximum traction for the toughest of terrains.

Whether it’s cruising down to the shops, towing or blasting down your favourite off-road trail – the 2022 Next Gen Ranger has you covered, by offering a total of six drive modes (in the XLT Plus and Wildtrak) to suit your driving mood and journey.

The drive modes - Normal, Eco, Tow/Haul, and Slippery are optimised for on-road driving requirements, while Mud/Ruts and Sand give you the best traction off-road by adjusting the engine behaviour, gearshifts, throttle response as well as the traction and stability controls to give you the best response for that terrain.

Another piece of serious off-roading kit is the dedicated off-road screen on the SYNC4A infotainment system. At the press of a button, the SYNC4A screen will relay all important information such as driveline and diff lock settings, steering angle, vehicle pitch and roll angles.

The SYNC4A screen can also intuitively display video feeds from the front camera with predictive overlay guidelines allowing the driver to perfectly point the 2022 Next Gen Ranger down a chosen path.

The 2022 Next Gen Ranger’s off-road ability goes beyond just its powertrain, from the ground up, it has been designed to withstand the toughest terrains and the immense stresses associated with off-roading.

To protect vital components when customers go off-road, the 2022 Next Gen Ranger boasts a raft of protective underbody shields for the steering, sump, transmission and transfer case.

These shields are made from pressed and folded laser-cut steel. The recessed mounting bolts are protected from damage and easy to remove for servicing, and because the shields are bolted directly to the chassis they add to the structural integrity of the vehicle.

Even the roof is now tougher. The 2022 Next Gen Ranger can withstand a load of 350 kg when static, and up to 85 kg whilst on the move.

Further back – the 2022 Next Gen Ranger offers a range of cargo management solutions in the load box to make it the most versatile Ranger ever.

Depending on the cargo, these include adjustable cleats on each side, tray-mounted tie-downs and styled box rails, to even tailgate clamp pockets and box capping with six structural mounting points for after-market accessories.

The 2022 Next Gen Ranger can carry a maximum payload of up to 1,000 kg. And as before, the 2022 Next Gen Ranger can wade through water of up to 800 mm.
