Less than a week after its launch in Indonesia, the facelifted 2022 Toyota Camry is unveiled in Thailand. Available in four variants, the Thai-spec Camry now comes with the 2.5-litre Dynamic Force engine in either petrol or hybrid guises.

The Camry was first introduced in Thailand in 1993 with local assembly beginning from 1999. Since then, more than 224,000 units of the Camry has been sold. The pre-facelift Camry was introduced in the Kingdom in 2018 and around 22,000 units have been sold there according to Toyota Motor Thailand.

It is of note that the Malaysian-spec Camry is imported from Thailand, so the updates seen on the Camry facelift is likely mirrored for Malaysia.

Let’s start with the powertrains and just like Indonesia, the Camry is available with both petrol and hybrid variants. The petrol-powered Camry comes in two variants in the Kingdom, 2.5 Sport and 2.5 Premium. Both are powered by a 2.5-litre A25A-FKB engine that produces 209 PS and 250 Nm.

Meanwhile, the Camry Hybrid is also available with two variants – 2.5 HEV Premium and 2.5 HEV Premium Luxury. Powering the hybrid “unkermobile” is a 2.5-litre A25A-FXS engine that makes 178 PS and 221 Nm paired to an electric motor that makes 120 PS and 202 Nm.

The petrol Camry is paired to an 8-speed automatic while the Camry Hybrid is mated to an E-CVT automatic.

The facelifted Camry is a bit more subtle in design updates, resembling the pre-facelift but it is still quite a beauty, for a Camry. The Thai-spec Camry sports more chrome trims, redesigned headlights, and 18-inch alloy wheels.

Though the exterior changes are minimal, the interior is a bit more drastic with a brand-new leather upholstery and a 9-inch floating-type infotainment screen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity that add more premium and modernity to the D-segment favourite.

Just like the Indo-spec Camry, the Thai Camry also sports enough safety features through the latest version of the Toyota Safety Sense (TSS 2). Improvements on the facelifted Camry include a Pre-Collision System (PCS) that detects pedestrians and cyclists and Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) with Curve Speed Reduction.

Also available on the Thai-spec Camry is the Modellista styling pack which starts from THB 41,000 (RM 5,100) for those who feel that the Camry is simply too “uncle” than cool.

The Camry facelift starts from THB 1,475,000 (~RM 184,000) for the petrol variant while the hybrid starts from THB 1,659,000 (~RM 207,000).

With Thai- and Indo-spec Camry getting the Dynamic Force engines, it seems that Malaysia might follow suit as well based on a scoop we reported. Earlier this year, we also reported that UMW Toyota might be bringing the Camry facelift by Q4 2021 but with the setbacks the country faced due to the pandemic, will we see its launch pushed to early-2022 instead?
