The 2023 Honda Civic (FE) remains unfettered in besting the Toyota Corolla Altis in Thailand, as it once bested its rival in the country's April 2023 sales figures.
Data shared by Autolifethailand.tv shows Honda sold 1,227 units of the Civic in April, while Toyota moved only 374 units of the Corolla Altis. In a distant third is the Mazda 3, having sold only 117 cars.
This simulatenously means the Civic maintains a heady lead over its nearest competitors there in the year's first quarter; with 5,607 units sold from January to April, it commands a 69.3% market share. In second place with 24.7% of the market is the Corolla Altis (2,001 units sold), while the Mazda 3 sits in third with 484 units, or a 6% slice of the market.
Honda has been dominant in a few other segments in Thailand as well, as the HR-V leading the Corolla Cross, and the City Hatchback is still ahead of the Toyota Yarisin Q1 2023.
On the grand scheme of things, Honda is looking to continue last year's top performance in the electrified vehicles (xEV) category, in which they were number one with 26,660 hybrid vehicles sold, translating to a 30% market share.
The City Hatchback RS e:HEV; a hybrid alternative to the Yaris
Lots of that owes to the diversity of hybrid cars that Honda offers in Thailand; 6, compared to only 4 of rival Toyota. In other words, almost every Honda model barring the newest BR-V and WR-V are available as a hybrid there.
Offering electrified B-segment vehicles have been key to their success; relative to Toyota's hybrid range that's only available in the pricier C- and D-segments.
Closer to home the story is similar, with Honda offering the City RS e:HEV, City Hatchback RS e:HEV, HR-V RS e:HEV, and the brilliant Civic RS e:HEV; making up four out of six available models in total here.
Incidentally, Honda Malaysia is pooling all of them together for you to experience in a month-long roadshow happening in Peninsular Malaysia beginning 3-June 2023. Don't miss the GenH event, happening at a location near you as below.
