As of January 2023, Perodua said it still has around 220,000 outstanding bookings carried over from 2022. A fair number of these bookings are for the outgoing generation Perodua Axia. However with the launch of the latest D74A generation 2023 Perodua Axia around the corner and production of the outgoing generation Axia coming to an end, clearly some adjustments had to be made.

Perodua has now confirmed that almost all outstanding bookings for the Axia have been converted into the new one.

“Our sales advisors have contacted our customers on the changes of the all-new Perodua Axia and most of our customers agreed to the switch,” said Perodua President and CEO Dato’ Sri Zainal Abidin Ahmad.

This also implies that many customers have agreed to pay more for the new Axia. Compared to the outgoing generation Axia that these customers had initially ordered, the new D74A generation 2023 Perodua Axia is around 11 to 13 percent more expensive than before.

But this is justified in it being a bigger, more spacious car inside, more fuel-efficient D-CVT transmission that delivers a claimed fuel consumption of up to 27.4 km/litre (MDC, Malaysia Driving Cycle, which is based on UN R101), while higher range models add 6 airbags and Perodua Smart Drive Assist (PSDA) driving aids.

Previously, Dato’ Sri Zainal has also said that for bookings made during the Penjana sales tax exemption period, Perodua will subsidize the sales tax if buyers agreed to convert their unfulfilled bookings into the new model.
