2023 Proton Saga swaps Hyundai's 4AT for Toyota's Aisin unit
Small product update concerning the 2023 Proton Saga in Malaysia, and it’s to do with it getting a new gearbox – gone is the old Hyundai-sourced 4-speed automatic (4AT), and in place is another 4AT from Toyota’s affiliate Aisin.
WapCar understands this update started in cars produced since May, though it is unclear if Proton will make an announcement since specs remain the same. Prices have remained unchanged too, likely because it’s still a 4AT and this is just a change in supplier.
Beyond the gearbox change, no other updates were outlined in the time being. To recap, the Proton Saga was facelifted last year, bringing with it a slightly reworked look and additional features within. Its 1.3-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engine with 95 PS and 120 Nm, soldiers on.
Four variants of the Saga are available, priced as below:
- 1.3 Standard MT: RM 34,400
- 1.3 Standard Lite AT: RM 38,300
- 1.3 Standard AT: RM 38,800
- 1.3 Premium AT: RM 41,800
- 1.3 Premium S AT: RM 44,800
