Volvo Car Malaysia has launched the all-electric (EV) Volvo C40 Recharge, priced at RM 288,888. This marks the second locally-assembled (CKD) EV by Volvo Car Malaysia after the XC40 Recharge Pure Electric.

The Volvo C40 is basically a coupe version of the Volvo XC40 – think BMW X3 and X4 – and sits on the same Compact Modular Architecture (CMA).

Powertrain of the C40 mirrors the XC40 Recharge EV, with a pair of electric motors located on the front and rear axles, giving it all-wheel drive (AWD) capability. Combined, total output stands at 408 PS and 660 Nm. Volvo claims a 0-100 km/h sprint time of 4.7 seconds.

It also gets the same 78 kWh battery that allows for up to 450 km driving range on a WLTP cycle.

Using a CCS Combo 2 connector, the onboard charger supports up to 11 kW AC charging while DC fast charging is rated at 150 kW, allowing for a 10 to 80 percent charge in 28 minutes.

In terms of exterior, it’s largely identical to the facelifted XC40 EV from the front with a covered front grille and triangular headlamps. Wheels are 19-inch items wrapped with staggered tyre sizes, with 235/50 R19 rubbers at the front and 255/45 R19 at the rear.

From the side and rear, the coupe profile distinguishes it from the XC40 EV. There’s a subtle spoiler and its taillamp graphics are more prominent, stretching further horizontally to the centre of the car.

Like the XC40 EV, there is a front trunk (frunk) that is rated at 31 litres, and an identically-sized boot at the rear at 413 litres.

Inside, the C40 gets glass panoramic roof, power-operated hands-free tailgate, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment display that runs on Android Automotive OS with Google services integration, and Harman Kardon speakers.

As for advanced safety features, the Volvo C40 Recharge gets the full ADAS suite of IntelliSafe with AEB, LKA, CTA, BLIS, Oncoming Lane Mitigation, and Run-off Road Mitigation. There’s also Pilot Assist, a level 2 semi-autonomous driving feature.

The Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric is covered by a 5-year/unlimited mileage vehicle warranty, while the high-voltage battery is covered by an 8-year/160,000 km warranty.

Volvo Car Malaysia also introduced its ‘Online Sales’ platform – the company’s first ever initiative to sell cars directly to its customers in Malaysia. The Volvo C40 Recharge Pure Electric will be available via an e-commerce platform that would enable customers to make bookings and payments directly to Volvo Car Malaysia on the company’s official website.
