Last year in September, Honda and General Motors (GM) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that saw both automotive giants partnering to develop electric vehicles (EV) for the North American market.

The first of which would be called the Honda Prologue and it is planned to debut in early 2024.

Aside from the name, nothing else has been revealed. However, the SUV will utilize the highly flexible global EV platform developed in collaboration with GM.

The platform will be powered by GM’s own Ultium batteries that could have a range of up to 400 miles (640 km) on a full charge.

Besides the Prologue, Honda also announced that an all-electric Acura SUV will also be launched in 2024 that also utilizes the same GM platform. The Japanese carmaker also plans to launch a new series of EV models in the second half of the decade based on a new platform led by Honda called e:Architecture.

Though Honda has unveiled the SUV e:prototype at Auto Shanghai 2021, it is worth noting that the future electric HR-V could not resemble the North American Prologue. For one, the all-new HR-V that was launched in Japan and Europe could be different from the one bound for North America.

The Prologue represents a new era for Honda in North America which aims for a 100% zero-emission line-up in the market by 2040. Meanwhile, sales of Honda’s current electrified vehicle line-up has been gaining momentum in the past three years with the CR-V Hybrid and Accord Hybrid leading the way.
