The second facelift for the fifth-generation Honda Odyssey made its debut in Japan. The facelift now features a more drastic look as Honda has swapped out the old grille in favour of a more aggressive-looking one.

Though it’s a change of the front grille, the car looks boxier and larger than life compared to the first facelift that is currently on sale in Malaysia. Interior wise, the MPV remains largely the same as before.

But the technology that we’re most looking forward to is the new Gesture-control power sliding doors. This feature involves a set of sensors placed on the rear doors which detects your hand or your elbow so you can open and close the doors like you’re using the Force in Star Wars.

Yes, the system also detects your elbows, this would be a huge help if your arms are full and you won’t need to put down the things you are holding to open the door.

Powertrain options remain the same; either a 2.4-litre 4-cylinder petrol engine or a 2.0-litre petrol-hybrid engine, similar to the upcoming Honda City RS’ i-MMD e:HEV engine.

When the Odyssey arrives in Malaysia, it will give those looking to purchase a premium MPVs like the Toyota Alphard/ Vellfire and alternative.
