Why are Honda engines so reliable? With 100 hours of red-lining test!

Honda has always been renowned for bullet-proof engine reliability. If you’ve ever wondered how does Honda test out the reliability of their engines before it is unleashed into the world, here’s a quick video about it.

Other than the usual tests to make sure the newly developed engines comply to current regulations, the company also conducts extreme tests by revving the engine at 6,800 RPMs for 100 hours to test its limits.

This is an interesting test considering how car manuals constantly warn against red-lining a car or the engine might blow.

In the tests, air-conditioning compressor function load is applied to the engine, mimicking real world driving conditions while fluids like engine oils and the fuel used are what you normally get as part of the car care regime.
