Government to introduce OKU number plates to replace OKU stickers

The National Council of Persons with Disabilities (MKBOKU) has approved the plan to change disabled person sticker to a special vehicle number plate instead as is suggested by the Ministry of Transport. 

According to a press release, applications for the disabled person’s number plate with the Social Welfare Department is now open. Those that are eligible to register for a disabled plate is as listed below:

• Physical disability
• A sub-category of learning disability – ADHD
• Autistic
• Multiple category disability
• Disabled person caretaker (only one family member allowed)

The decision to switch from the disabled person’s sticker, or better known as OKU sticker, stems from the government’s concern on making travelling for both the disabled person and their caretakers easier and safer.

Not just that, the plate will also make it easier for authorities to identify those that misuse the parking facilities made ready for disabled people.
