Now that the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has made a U-turn on their decision to allow car factories to continue operating during the reinstated Movement Control Order (MCO), what are the car factories that are affected by the new standard operating procedures?
As you know there are numerous car factories in Malaysia, car factory hotspots mainly focus in Kedah, Selangor, and Pahang. The Honda plant is the only car producing factory located in Pegoh, Melaka.

Factories located in states not affected by the lockdown, Pahang and Kedah for example, can continue operating but their work could also be disrupted if they rely on parts manufactured by suppliers located in states affected by the MCO.

Simply put, with suppliers not allowed to operate, the factories in Gurun and Pekan might not have the parts delivered to them to assemble the cars in the production line.
Car plants that will be allowed to continue operating
In conclusion, while not all car plants in Malaysia will be required to close as the country work to flatten the Covid-19 curve, production will still be affected in various ways. It just depends on the severity on whether the plant is required to close for good or lacking parts to complete full assembly.
