Mere days after its global debut, Sime Darby Auto Performance (SDAP), the official distributor of Porsche Cars in Malaysia, has launched the new 2021 Porsche Taycan RWD here. Prices for this base-spec Taycan start from RM 584,561 (includes 50% SST exemption, valid until 30-June 2021) and will be available at Porsche Centres nationwide from March 2021.

Inclusive of SST, the Taycan RWD will start from RM 605,000.

Just like the rest of the Taycan range, it is all-electric but features rear-wheel drive as opposed to all-wheel drive. There are two battery sizes available for the Taycan RWD which are the 79.2 kWh single-deck Performance Battery and the 93.4 kWh two-deck Performance Battery Plus.

The range, in accordance with WLTP, is up to 431 or up to 484 kilometres respectively.

In terms of performance, the Performance Battery-equipped Taycan RWD has up to 408 PS while the ones equipped with Performance Battery Plus has a max power output of 476 PS. Top speed, whichever battery is equipped, is 230 km/h.

Acceleration from standstill to 100 km/h for the Taycan RWD is 5.4 seconds, for both configurations. It’s slower than the Taycan 4S which does the 0-100 km/h in 4.0 seconds. Granted, the Taycan 4S has a larger power output too at 530 PS.

The max charging power for the Taycan RWD is up to 270 kW. However, as it's an electric car, you might be curious to know how fast it charges. Well, Porsche claims that both batteries can be charged from 5% to 80% in 22.5 minutes, provided there’s DC charging with max kW.

If you do want a quick way to charge the Taycan, currently only three Porsche Centres nationwide are equipped with a 175 kW DC Fast Charger. These are the fastest DC chargers in Malaysia and are exclusive for Porsche owners only which are located at Porsche Damansara, Porsche Penang, and Porsche Sungai Besi.

Apart from the layout and lesser power output, the Taycan RWD is similarly equipped as its all-wheel drive variants. So, what are your thoughts on the “base” Taycan?
