MCO 2.0: MoT allows exemption of road tax renewals from 1 Feb to 31 Mar 2021 01

Minister of Transport, Datuk Sri Dr Wee Ka Siong, announced on his Facebook page that the Ministry of Transport will be exempting the need to renew Motor Driving License (LKM) and Competent Driving Licenses (CDL) exclusive of Vocational License from 1 February to 31 March 2021.

The decision came after public concerns over the limited services at Road Transport Department (JPJ), Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), and Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) offices.

As reported earlier, services at JPJ counters are limited to only Commercial Vehicles and Vocational Licenses renewal only for the duration of the Movement Control Order (MCO). Meanwhile, renewal of private licenses or private vehicle road tax is encouraged to make use of online platforms.

For the time being, drivers with expired road tax must make sure they have a valid motor vehicle insurance and display their e-cover notes on their vehicles or present it to traffic enforcement personnel upon request.

This exemption is similar to that of exemption that the Ministry of Transport introduced back in the first MCO.

Note this exemption does not apply to commercial vehicles road tax and holders of Vocational Licenses (PSV/ GDL).

The love for cars and F1 ultimately led to a job with CAR Magazine. The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle womenโ€™s magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
