Perodua aims to sell 240,000 vehicles in 2021 - a 9% increase from the impressive 220,163 units sold last year. The company cites sustained strong demand for existing models and the sales tax (SST) exemption as key factors in achieving this goal.
Perodua's sales figures last year netted them 41.6% market share of the 529,434 new cars sold in Malaysia (better known as Total Industry Volume, TIV) in 2020.

Perodua President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dato' Zainal Abidin Ahmad says, “With the extension of the sales tax exemption to end-June 2021, recent Covid-19 vaccine developments and all our models continuing to be in demand, we believe 2021 will be the year of recovery."
Increased production numbers in 2021
Dato’ Zainal added that with the estimated recovery of Perodua’s sales volume, they expect to purchase a record RM 6.5 billion worth of locally-sourced components in 2021.
With every model having over 90% local parts content, Perodua remains the biggest customer of automotive components in Malaysia.
He added that Perodua is setting a production target of 272,000 vehicles this year - the highest in the company's history, to ensure sufficient stock to fulfill deliveries.
The company's production targets for this year is a 23% increase over the 220,968 units manufactured in 2020.
Optimism for this year
According to Dato’ Zainal, Perodua is expecting its after-sales market to grow 20% from 2 million units in 2020 to 2.4 million units in 2021.
In addition to the sales figures, Dato' Zainal also mentioned about 'Perodua Smart Build', a new transformative approach that seeks to improve the company's products and operational capabilities.
D55L to lead the charge?
On top of this, note that the D55L is another hot launch Malaysians are waiting for.
Slated to be launched sometime this year, we expect sales training for the model to begin this week. But that's not all - news from the grapevine says that the upcoming B-segment SUV is likely to have a starting price of around RM 60k.
