The Geely KX11 has a name! It is officially the Xingyue L

Last month, Geely revealed official photos of the upcoming Geely KX11 SUV. Now more photos, including the interior, have been released and the car finally has a name! The Geely KX11 will go on sale in China in a few months time as the Geely Xingyue L.

The Geely Xingyue L will be the third CMA platform-based Geely model to use the "Xing" name prefix.

If you look at Geely’s “Xing” family (directly translates as Star), it is currently made up of the Geely Xingyue (known as the Tugella internationally) SUV coupe and the Geely Xingrui (internationally known as the Preface) sedan. Both cars are the first of Geely’s models to be built on the CMA platform.

So, it is only natural for Geely to want their third CMA model to be distinguished from the other models that have yet to join the CMA family.

As for why it is known as the “Xingyue L”, we can only assume that Geely will market the model as a larger, more conventional variant of the Xingyue coupe-SUV. Or it could be that Geely is hoping to ride on the Xingyue name that has already made a name for itself in China.

The letter “L” in the name stands for 3 meanings. The first is obviously “Larger”. The Xingyue L measures much larger than the Xingyue coupe at 4,770 x 1,895 x 1,689 mm in length, width, and height while the wheelbase measures in at 2,845 mm.

In contrast, the Xingyue measures 4,605 x 1,878 x 1,643 mm in length, width, and height and has a wheelbase of 2,700 mm. Although the Xingyue L is smaller than the Geely Haoyue (also known as the Geely Okavango) 7-seater SUV, the wheelbase beats the Haoyue’s 2,815 mm length.

The second word the “L” stands for is “Luxury”. Geely has ramp up the luxury scale with the Xingyue L. Not only does it feature Porsche-esque taillights, the interior also features a very minimalist but premium feel.

This is further accentuated by the massive liquid crystal display that spans the entire dashboard.

Lastly, the “L” also stands for “Liberate”. Geely chose the meaning as a showcase of the design and technological progress that the company has made throughout the years starting from the Geely Dihao (Emgrand).

But enough about the name, other information that Geely has released about the Geely Xingyue L includes the presence of the famed Firmware Over the Air (FOTA) technology that gave the Xingrui its China's 2021 Car of the Year status.

Another hint is the Xingyue L’s powertrain. Like the Xingrui, the large SUV will be powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine. Geely might be adding a fully electric option too as the company has hinted that they have set their sights on the Tesla Model Y as a direct competitor.
