The 2021 Perodua Ativa is here and it gets a number of features unique for the Malaysian market.
One such feature is its steel tailgate, different from the Japanese-market Toyota Raize and Daihatsu Rocky donor cars, which get a tailgate made out of PPGF (glass fiber-reinforced polypropylene).
The main reason why Perodua went with a conventional steel tailgate instead of the lightweight PPGF one is the lack of facilities capable of molding such a large piece of plastic here in Malaysia.
Investing in a mold capable of producing this PPGF tailgate also isn’t cheap, so Perodua decided against it and gave the Ativa a steel tailgate instead.
As a result, the Perodua Ativa and its steel tailgate (and spare tyre) tips the scale at 1,035 kg, marginally more than the Rocky/Raize, which weight 980 kg.
The 2021 Perodua Ativa is Perodua’s first-ever model to feature a turbocharged engine in the form of a 1-litre 1KR-VET found in the Ativa is good for 98 PS and 140 Nm. Drive is sent to the front wheels via a Dual-mode CVT (D-CVT).
