Doing away from the standard blacks, whites, and silvers, Mazda has been (literally) adding more colour to its array of models. Soul Red Crystal and Polymetal Grey are some of the more familiar hues but joining the mix is Platinum Quartz Metallic which is offered on the updated 2022 Mazda CX-30.
The updated CX-30 was introduced back in March and is fully imported (CBU) from Japan. Prices for one of the most beautiful cars on sale have gone up by around RM 1,000. The unit shown here is the 1.8D High that starts from RM 168,673 (OTR without insurance and with 50% SST discount, valid until 30-June 2022).

In total, Bermaz Motor is offering 5 variants of the CX-30 and aside from the 1.8-litre SkyActiv-D turbodiesel variant, the other four variants are powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G petrol engine.
The turbodiesel unit churns out 116 PS and 270 Nm whereas the petrol engine produces 164 PS and 213 Nm. Both units are mated to Mazda’s SkyActiv-Drive 6-speed torque converter automatic that sends power to the front wheels on all but the highest variant of the CX-30 – the CX-30 Ignite Edition 2.0G High AWD.
No prizes in guessing the layout of the highest variant but for now let’s focus on the star of this article. The lone diesel-powered CX-30 is the top trim of the non-Ignite Edition variants.
As such, it doesn’t get the aesthetic goodies you would get on the Ignite Edition like Burgundy-coloured seats as well as black-painted 18-inchers and side mirrors. Still, the brown and black leather combination adds that usual sense of premium and class you get from any modern Mazda.
Some features like the 360-degree camera are only offered for the Ignite Edition variants but the standard CX-30 is still feature-packed and if the colour is really what pulls you in, then it’s probably something one might not miss out on.
The CX-30 1.8D High comes with auto-levelling LED headlights, a power tailgate with programmable height function, a head-up display (or Active Driving Display in Mazda speak) and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
In terms of safety, the i-Activsense ADAS suite is available as standard on the High variants of the CX-30 including this diesel-powered model. The suite comprises:
Adaptive Front-lighting System (AFS)
High Beam Control (HBC)
Blind-spot Monitoring (BSM)
Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA)
Lane Departure Warning System (LDWS)
Lane-Keep Assist System (LAS)
Driver Attention Alert (DAA)
Smart Brake Support (SBS)
Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC)
Though that might seem like the full course suite of ADAS, the Ignite Edition variants offer an additional three features – Front Cross-Traffic Alert (FCTA), DAA with Driver Monitoring, and Cruising & Traffic Support (CTS).
Still, you aren’t exactly losing much as the standard CX-30 is already quite loaded with features. That said, is one of the most beautiful crossovers on sale today more exquisite to look at with the Platinum Quartz colour?
Well, the colour stands out not because not many cars offer beige these days. The hue gives off an elegant aesthetic. It looks light and airy like those minimalist apartments and the brown-black leather combo inside does enhance that quite a bit.
Beauty can be subjective, but if you’re interested to see one up close, you can perhaps pop by your nearest Mazda showroom to check it out. If you fancy the colour but not the CX-30, Platinum Quartz is also offered on the updated Mazda 3 and Mazda CX-3.
