GWM didn’t give a specific timeline to the Haval H6’s launch in Malaysia, nor details of its powertrain as the model is yet to be launched in Thailand.
What has taken place so far is just GWM’s brand launch, which saw 4 models confirmed for Thailand in 2021, including the Haval H6 and Ora Good Cat battery electric hatchback.
The Haval H6 is expected to be launched in Thailand in the coming months, locally-assembled at the former General Motors plant in Rayong.
In China, the Haval H6 is available with a turbocharged 1.5-litre 169 PS four-cylinder engine or a turbocharged 2.0-litre 211 PS / 224 PS four-cylinder.
On top of these, a regular hybrid variant is expected to make its world debut in Thailand.
The Haval H6 is the best-selling SUV in China for 2020.
Last year, GWM delivered 376,864 units of the Haval H6 in China, 136,053 units more than the Geely Boyue. As an imported model, the Haval H6 will most certainly be more expensive than the locally-assembled Proton X70.
In the near-term, the Haval H6 won’t offer much resistance to Proton. GWM’s press office also did not confirm if the Malaysian distributor Go Auto, which has been rather quiet lately and has since disbanded its public relations team, will continue to represent the Haval brand in Malaysia.
