Earlier this week, we published a spyshot of a camouflaged Chery Tiggo 4 Pro in Kuala Lumpur, but that was the rear. This time around, we have a clearer view of the front courtesy of our friends at Behind the Wheel.
The WapCar editorial team had a field day in guessing what the SUV was under all that camo. Some models suggested were the Volkswagen T-Roc, the Borgward BX3 (remember them?), the Trumpchi GS3, and even the Kia Sonet but it turned out to be the Tiggo 4 Pro all along.
The overall design does resemble the T-Roc but it’s the little details that are in favour of the Tiggo 4 Pro even it is wrapped in camo. For instance, we can see that the headlight design matches more on the Chery than the Volkswagen.
Other telling signs include the wheel design and the body line from the headlight to the window. Then, there are also the lower side fenders which are more prominent than on the T-Roc. All of these lean towards the Tiggo 4 Pro.
Is Chery making a return to Malaysia?
Maybe, but recall that Chery is currently only sold in left-hand drive (LHD) markets. The Tiggo 4 Pro is available in the Philippines where only the pre-facelift model is sold.
The facelift is currently available only in China where it is powered by a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated inline-4 petrol engine (116 PS/143 Nm) or a 1.5-litre turbocharged 4-cylinder petrol unit (156 PS/230 Nm).
The one spotted in Malaysia appeared to be the facelift model and it looks like it’s a right-hand drive (RHD) unit. Will Malaysia be the first RHD market to sell the Tiggo 4 Pro and should the Proton X50 be worried for another rival?
