Come next week's Shanghai Auto Show, Great Wall Motors (GWM) will unveil a special, toughened GWM Pick-Up - also known as the Pao - called the Baja Snake. Think of it as something like the Ranger Raptor to the regular Ford Ranger.

The kicker? It'll be made in collaboration with Shelby American. Yes, that Shelby, of various beefed-up Ford Mustang fame.

Since Shelby is fettling with it, a power increase to match its upgraded suspension and angrier bodywork is expected (to be announced). For context, the standard Cannon's 2.0-litre turbodiesel makes 163 PS and 400 Nm.

These shroudy pictures tweeted by Greg Kable are all that's known about the Baja Snake for now, and more will be revealed at the Shanghai Auto Show that starts on 19-April and goes on all the way to 28-April 2021.

Closer to our region, GWM has entered Thailand, and the Pick-Up is one of the models earmarked to be sold there alongside the Proton X70-class Haval H6 and Toyota Corolla Cross-class Haval First Love.
