In this article, we'll go through the top 5 cars with the lowest fuel consumption during our tests.
Before we start, do note that our method of testing relies on the fuel station’s pump, which in turn relies on pressure and vacuum to click. Hence some variation in ambient temperature or calibration that causes inaccuracies may have occurred.
That being said, we try our best to minimize variables by visiting the same exact fuel station and fuel pump during refuel. On top of that, all tyres are always inflated according to the manufacturer’s specification, air conditioning is always on, and driving behaviour is as per nomal driver.
With that out of the way, let's begin.
As expected from the Axia's small displacement engine, fuel consumption is relatively low. After driving for 113.3 km and refuelling 7.323 litres, a calculated fuel consumption of 6.5-litre/100 km was obtained.
The onboard trip computer displayed an average of 6.2-litre/100 km, which is fairly close to the actual figure.

This is perhaps the biggest surprise here, a D-segment sedan capable of sipping as little fuel as a Perodua Axia.
After completing a 78 km journey broken down to 70% highway and 30% city driving, the amount of fuel required to brim the tank is 5.1 litres, which gives a calculated figure of 6.5-litre/100 km.
Curiously, the trip computer showed 7.5-litre/100 km.

Two fuel consumption tests were conducted with the first returning 7.2-litre/100 km from a 102.3 km trip and refuelling 7.38 litres. The second test resulted in 5.3-litre/100 km from a 97.1 km trip and refuelling 5.19 litres.
Without disregarding both results, an average fuel consumption of 6.3-litre/100 km is calculated.

After a 93.9 km journey broken down to about 40% city and 60% highway, we’ve used 5.82 litres of fuel which translates to 6.2-litre/100 km.
The trip computer showed an average of 7.2-litre/100 km.

Similarly to the Honda City, we’ve conducted the fuel consumption test twice on the Nissan Almera.
From the two tests, an average result of 5.8-litre/100 km was obtained.

Ideally, all cars would have multiple fuel consumption tests like the Honda City and Nissan Almera for a more consistent and reliable result. But unfortunately, time and resources are limited so we worked with what we had.
