Back in January, we reported that Suzuki has commenced production of the Suzuki Jimny at their Gurugram plant in India. The Gurugram plant is the second plant after Suzuki Motor’s plant in Kosai, Japan to build the Jimny.

Initially, the target market for the India-made Jimnys were Peru and Columbia, as well as African countries and the Middle East. With this recent piece of news, Philippines can now be added to the growing number of countries.

As reported by CarGuide, Suzuki Philippines has shifted sourcing of the Jimny from Japan to India. This move is logical for Suzuki Philippines, as the company currently sources the Suzuki S-Presso and Suzuki Dzire from India.

The made-in-India Suzuki Jimny is priced exactly the same as the Japan-made model. Monotone variants are priced at PHP 1.205 million (~RM 103k), while two-tone variants are priced at PHP 1.215 million (~RM 104k).

Closer to home, the Suzuki Jimny could be the next model to be launched by Naza Eastern Motors, though it is unlikely for the company to source it from India, owing to the fact that Malaysia does not have a free trade agreement with India. Malaysia does have a free trade agreement with Japan.

Just don’t expect it to be cheap.
