Four-month waiting period for a brand new Perodua. What's going on?

If you've just pulled the trigger on that brand new Perodua, well, you now probably have to wait longer for it to arrive. We caught sight of a document that's doing its rounds telling Perodua dealers to brace for longer waiting periods for their cars to arrive.

Per the circular document, Perodua says that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused a shortage of global parts supply for automotive manufacturing, which probably means another round of semiconductor chip shortage. As of April 21, 2021, Perodua has received 55,000 outstanding bookings for its cars (usually that can be cleared within 3 months), which is set to be delayed in its delivery. 

The circular goes on to say that, delays could range from 1.5 months all the way up to four months depending on the model, variant, and colour. Perodua doesn't specify which models are affected (as they did in the previous production delay), but our sources did add that the Myvi is the most affected model, with the Ativa being the least affected.

Regardless, Perodua says it is exhausting all avenues to shorten the delivery timing. If you've just booked a Perodua, well, do check with your Sales Advisor to get the latest updates.
