The Perodua Ativa is certainly getting all the attention in Malaysia but over in Indonesia, things are getting a bit more exciting for one of the Ativa’s donor twins. Apart from getting both the Daihatsu Rocky and the Toyota Raize, Indonesians will also able to get a kitted-up version for the latter in the form of the Toyota Raize GR Sport (GR-S).

According to our friends over at AutoFun Indonesia, photos of the Raize GR-S have leaked online ahead of its launch on 30-April 2021. This model will be the first Toyota in Indonesia to receive the Gazoo Racing treatment.

However, don’t expect it to be as potent as the GR Yaris because the only upgrades given to the Raize GR-S are merely cosmetic. These include:

• Sporty front and rear bumpers
• Side skirts
• GR Sport side decals
• GR Sport badges
• 17-inch Gloss Black wheels

Honestly, we think the Raize GR-S looks a bit more subtle than the Gear Up accessories on the Ativa. In fact, we even think the Vios GR-S looks more aggressive.

Inside, the only telling difference that this is the GR Sport variant is a pair of paddle shifters behind the steering wheel. Recall that neither the Japanese-spec Raize/Rocky nor our very own Ativa come with this feature.

Even though there will be a manual version of the Raize for Indonesia, that transmission isn’t offered on the Raize GR-S. Instead, powering the Raize GR-S is a 1.0-litre turbocharged 3-cylinder 1KR-VET (98 PS/140 Nm) paired with a D-CVT automatic gearbox.

This is similar to what is offered in the Ativa and the Japanese-spec Raize/Rocky.

The Indo-spec Raize will also come with a newly-developed naturally-aspirated 1.2-litre engine option (88 PS/112 Nm) and is paired to either a CVT or a 5-speed manual transmission.

Besides, the brochure of the Indonesian Raize has also been leaked and the Raize GR-S will be offered with two variants – one with Toyota Safety Sense (TSS) ADAS and another without.

The TSS variant Raize GR-S is the top-of-the-line variant and is equipped with Pre-Collision System (PCS), adaptive cruise control (ACC), blind-spot monitoring (BSM), and rear cross-traffic alert (RCTA).
