Last year in June, the government announced a decision to place sales tax (SST) exemption for cars – cut sales tax on CKD cars, while offering 50% sales tax discount for CBU models as part of the Penjana stimulus package.

It was supposed to last until 31-December 2020 but in a twist that brought mixed reactions in the local automotive industry, the Ministry of Finance extended the exemption to 30-June 2021.

So, if you’re interested to buy a new car, now might be the right time to take advantage of the sales tax discounts. In this article, we will focus on Toyota but do note that some prices inclusive of SST are estimates unless stated otherwise.

The following table shows the current prices without SST (valid until 30-June 2021) and the estimated price increase in percentage with SST. Certain models and variants were launched after the SST exemption was announced, so those prices will remain TBC until official announcements are made.

*Deliveries of the Toyota Corolla Cross 1.8 V variant will only begin after July, well passing the SST exemption period.

Meanwhile, prices of pick-up trucks and commercial vehicles such as the Toyota Hilux and Hiace are not eligible for SST exemption. As such, their prices remain unchanged.

So, those are some of the prices before and after 30-June. As mentioned earlier in the article, some prices are just estimates and we will update the article as official announcements are made by UMW Toyota Motor (UMWT).

Furthermore, the supply of some models would be tight due to the chip supply shortage. Vehicles must also be registered on or before 30-June to enjoy the SST exemption.
