Ratings: 2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD - Still an excellent all-rounder 01

We've regarded the Honda CR-V as a great all-rounder for a family SUV. After all, it came out on top in last year's Ratings Comparison test between C-segment SUVs. Now that the facelift has arrived, we thought we'd put it through the scrunity of Ratings tests once again.

2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD: Driving Performance - 28.5/50 pts, AWD slightly blunts acceleration

2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD - Facts and Figures
Engine 1.5-litre turbo 4-cylinder
Transmission CVT automatic
Power 193 PS @ 5,600 rpm
Torque 243 Nm @ 2,000 - 5,000 rpm
Weight 1,602 kg
0-100 km/h 9.3 seconds
100-0 km/h 41.5 metres

The 2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD does 0-100 km/h in 9.3 seconds. Compared to the pre-facelift model, it's 0.4 seconds slower, which we suspect could be due to the additional weight and drivetrain losses.

Ratings: 2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD - Still an excellent all-rounder 01

Braking performance is about average in the facelifted Honda CR-V, taking 41.5 metres to come to a standstill from 100 km/h.

Ratings: 2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD - Still an excellent all-rounder 02

The facelift exercise hasn't changed the driving experience. In the corners, the Honda CR-V feels slightly cumbersome as it reacts slowly to the weight shifts. Rivals like the Mazda CX-5 and Volkswagen Tiguan do a better job in this aspect

The seats aren't exceptionally supportive, but seat base for both the front and rear seats do provide adequate thigh support for long-distance journeys.

The ride is on the softer side as expected from an SUV and the suspension soaks up road imperfections well. But at higher speeds, the ride quality deteriorates as the suspension struggles to cope with undulations.

Ratings: 2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD - Still an excellent all-rounder 04

Cabin noise level in the Honda CR-V is about average and far from the quietest in the segment. Subjectively however, we do notice that it feels quieter than the pre-facelift model. We'd attribute this to the active noise cancellation feature.

There's more than 3 tennis balls of knee room for a 177 cm tall adult and around 1 tennis ball of headroom.

Ratings: 2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD - Still an excellent all-rounder 10

Practicality is excellent; while the door bins do not extend the entire length of the door cards, it's compensated by a massive centre storage space.

Ratings: 2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD - Still an excellent all-rounder 11

The rear cabin floor is almost flat so the middle passenger would not have compete for foot space. The relatively thin door panels means it has ample shoulder room for 3 adults to sit comfortably abreast in the back.

Ratings: 2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD - Still an excellent all-rounder 12

Boot space is rated at 522 litres, which is quite a bit larger than the Mazda CX-5’s boot at 445 litres. The boot floor is also low and the opening aperture is wide with practically no load lip to lift items over, making it easy to load and unload.

2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD: Conclusion - 170/250 pts overall

Ratings: 2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD - Still an excellent all-rounder 17

As before, the Honda CR-V has relatively decent straight-line performance, has impressive cabin space, and is well-equipped. The drop in price for the facelift means better value than before.

Compared to the pre-facelift model, it lost a few points in Driving Performance and Fuel Economy but regained in Purchase and Cost, so its total score evened out in the end.

Ratings: 2020 Honda CR-V 1.5 TC-P 4WD - Still an excellent all-rounder 18

The Honda CR-V may not be the most engaging to drive nor is it the most comfortable in its segment, but as an all-rounder, few can top the Honda CR-V.
