In a press release recapping its activities for year 2020, MBM said, “The company aims to expand its CKD footprint with plans to localize additional models in the compact car and SUV segment this year.”

While MBM did not specify any models in the CKD plan, one doesn’t need to make too far of a leap to read between the lines. We are expecting popular models like GLA to be included.

BMW Malaysia makes the BMW X1 in Kulim, and it’s currently the best seller in its class, with a starting price of RM 208,368. There’s no need for MBM to make itself any clearer.

Since the sales and service tax cut has been extended to 31-December-2021, MBM is in a strong position to capitalize it. That is, assuming the lockdown doesn’t delay production and price approvals by the government.
