According to Chinese portals, the Geely Binyue (sold here as the Proton X50), will be getting the “Pro” treatment real soon. It will be joined by an updated Geely Boyue Pro (also known as the Proton X70).

Changes towards the rear include a black-finished tailgate trim piece with the Geely wording emblazoned across and body-coloured finishing on the diffuser piece. Speaking of diffuser, the Binyue Pro’s diffuser now encapsulates the quad muffler tips, giving it a more cohesive look.

Now for the more extensive make-over. Barring the carried-over LED headlights, the rest of the updated Geely Boyue Pro is new, now with a massive black front grille, flanked by silver and red trim pieces on the edge.

Wapcar’s comments

While some may appreciate the Binyue Pro and Boyue Pro’s new looks, not every one is convinced. Some find that the updated Boyue Pro’s front-end looks too fussy, while others mentioned that it looks like it was inspired by Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design language.

Whether or not these models end up in Malaysia is anyone’s guess. The pre-facelift Geely Boyue Pro is only sold in left-hand drive markets, like the Philippines. Right-hand drive markets like Malaysia does not get the Boyue Pro.

That said however, the Malaysian-spec Proton X70 will be receiving the “SE” treatment soon, as evident from recent spyshots. The X70 SE could then be followed by a facelifted Proton X70, likely dropping its turbocharged 1.8-litre engine in favour of the Proton X50’s 1.5-litre unit.
