We’ve spied the upcoming Proton Persona and Proton Iriz facelift on the roads plenty of times, now here’s a look at the cars sans-camouflage on the Perak Police’s Facebook page.
The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) was conducting a standard operating procedure check in Proton’s Tanjung Malim plant and was broadcasting the process on Facebook Live when they unwittingly leaked footage of the cars.
Of course, eagle-eyed fans were quick to notice the Proton Persona sitting in all its glory and sporting the new round Proton logo on its grille. Too bad we didn’t get a close-up of the new Iriz Active variant in the videos.
What’s interesting is the mysterious black Proton X70 that the group walked pass. But don't get too excited, perhaps the black X70 will find a place in the government convoy one day or it could possibly mean that Proton is looking to introduce a Proton X70 Black Edition.
The facelifted Proton Persona MC2 will be available in 3 variants when it is launched; the Standard 1.6L CVT, Executive 1.6L CVT, and Premium 1.6L CVT.
Meanwhile, the facelifted Proton Iriz MC2 will also be offered in 3 variants with 2 engine choices; Standard 1.3L CVT, Executive 1.6L CVT, and the all-new Active 1.6L CVT. Both models have dropped the manual transmission.
Earlier this year, the facelifted Persona and Iriz were heavily tipped to launch before Hari Raya this year. But unfortunately, due to the ongoing Movement Control Order, the launch of the 2 models were pushed back indefinitely.
There isn’t a time in memory that doesn’t involve staring at cars. After discovering the excitement of watching Schumacher vs Hakkinen, Formula 1 became a major part of life. The love for cars and F1 ultimately led to a job with CAR Magazine. The untimely death of the magazine meant a hiatus from cars at lifestyle women’s magazine Marie Claire before another opportunity came knocking again.
