Starting 14-July-2021, Singaporeans can book an electric vehicle or a hybrid to transport them to their destinations via the new JustGrab Green pilot programme. The new programme is just one of Grab Singapore’s efforts to reduce its carbon footprint.
As part of the company’s GrabForGood initiative that seeks to positively impact people, partners, and the planet, Grab Singapore announced its 2030 Transport Sustainability Goal to operate via a full fleet that runs on cleaner energy by the year 2030.
Which is why the e-hailing service introduced JustGrab Green as one of the efforts that Grab hopes will reach its goal.
JustGrab Green is a new transport type that will be added to the app. The programme is serviced by a fleet that comprises of electric and hybrid vehicles rated to emit less than 125g of CO2 per kilometre.
Examples of the vehicles that will be included in the transport type are the Hyundai Kona EV, Toyota Prius, and Kia Niro Hybrid. Grab Singapore hopes that a hybrid or electric vehicle would help reduce carbon emissions by an estimated 55 percent.
The pilot programme will first be made available to passengers in the central region before it is expanded to more locations. The greener ride option will also operate under the same pricing structure as normal JustGrab rides.

Other than that, Grab Singapore is also working on expanding its electric and hybrid vehicle fleet through its rental arm, GrabRentals.
Another effort that Grab Singapore also introduced as part of the 2030 Transport Sustainability Goal is the Green Programme.
The programme will contribute to supporting solarisation and conservation efforts in Singapore. Consumers have the choice to turn on the feature that will pay a nominal SGD 0.10 every time they book a ride.
The money collected will be contributed to carbon offset and solarisation projects around Singapore.

Part of the contributions will go to into a project started by Sembcorp Industries, a leading energy and urban solutions provider, that will identify solarisation projects jointly between the 2 companies. Sembcorp will help to develop, operate, and maintain solar systems as well.
The rest of the contributions will go to another project which Grab collaborated with Shell. The money collected will be used to purchase carbon credits generated from the Katingan Mentaya Project in Indonesia.

The Katingan Mentaya Project restores natural forests and conserves peatland habitats, preventing the release of greenhouse gases equivalent to 447 million tonnes of carbon dioxide over 60 years. The project also helps local communities create jobs, improve soil quality and food production.
