You have seen the spyshots, now it has been confirmed that the all-new 2021 Peugeot 2008 is set to launch in November or December this year.
The all-new 2008, which will be locally-assembled, will be one of the first few Peugeot models to be unveiled by its new Malaysian guardians, Berjaya Auto Alliance Sdn Bhd (BAASB), a subsidiary of Bermaz Auto (BAuto)
However, this stipulated launch timeline is obviously highly dependent on the Covid-19 situation in our country.
In a Maybank Investment Bank (Maybank IB) report shared to investors, sighted by WapCar.my, Bermaz Auto has outlined plans for Peugeot in Malaysia.
Central to its ambitions to grow the Peugeot brand here is the all-new 2008. BAASB is targeting 1.5k - 1.8k units sales for financial year of 2022.
It's still unclear what powertrain will be offered in Malaysia, but the Vietnam-spec Peugeot 2008 features a 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine (135 PS, 230 Nm) paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2021 Peugeot 2008 is set to be locally-assembled in Gurun, Kedah, where the model has been spied doing development rounds. The previous-generation Peugeot 2008 retailed for RM109,888.
With local assembly in the picture, the all-new Peugeot 2008 should not stray too far from this price tag. Obviously, time will tell.
In Europe, the all-new Peugeot 2008 is Europe's best-selling SUV of 2021. With that in mind, we wonder if it can carry this form to do battle in Malaysia's fiercely-contested B-segment SUV/crossover marketplace. Let the good times roll.
