MAA: Even big dealerships will close by Oct if closure continues 01

If the current lockdown extends for another month, many car dealerships will be forced to close, said Malaysian Automotive Association (MAA) president Datuk Aishah Ahmad during a virtual press conference earlier today

It also further solidifies what we reported earlier, that many car dealerships are on the brink of shutting down.

As reported by Pandulaju, Datuk Aishah mentioned that under the current National Recovery Plan (NRP) Phase 1, car dealerships are not allowed to open, pushing many small- and medium-sized dealerships to the verge of closure.

"During the first MCO, many of these dealers have some cash reserve, but as we enter the second year of MCO, their reserves are running low," she said.

Datuk Aishah also said, “True, affected dealers are all independent dealers. Without any sales, there is no income. Only workshops are allowed to open. If the MCO extends, they are forced to close down and leave this industry.”

"It is the same for bigger dealerships, they are also affected and might be able sustain until October if the Government still does not reopen the automotive sector," she told Berita Harian.

She added that MAA has informed the Government about this issue. “There are dealers who informed that they cannot sustain any longer, including motorcycle dealers who are requesting for the industry to reopen,” she said.
