Last week saw the ASEAN launch of the all-new 2022 Honda Civic FE in Thailand. Safe to say, the all-new Civic comes equipped with the latest and greatest gadgets, some previously not available in the FC-generation predecessor, like the Honda Smart Key Card.
Not content with having a regular key fob for users to keylessly enter and start their cars, the Civic FE RS variant comes with what Honda calls the Smart Key Card. Well, it functions just like a keyless fob, but packaged in a more elegant and streamlined way.
We're not entirely sure what's the main reason to deviate from a standard key fob (if it ain't broke, right?), but perhaps this form factor is easier to fit into users' pockets, wallets, or even handbags. Well, it also does appear to be lighter in weight, thus saving a precious few grams, if that's your thing.
Of course, this isn't our first encounter with a key card for keyless entry and ignition. Renault cars, like the Koleos and Megane have been using a key card system, but the Honda Civic FE's iteration does look more classy and less.... plasticky?
All that said, which do you prefer? A traditional key fob, or a slimmer, more elegant key card? Do you think the Honda Smart Key Card feature will find its way to Malaysian-spec models, come launch time?
